A Little Help If Possible Please...

Hi. When my husband returns from work a little nearer Christmas we'll be doing a shop for our local foodbank, but including lots of goodies like selection boxes or stockings for the children, along with other treats for the adults as well as the staples. I'd appreciate any help from you with regards to prices/offers you see in the supermarkets you shop in, so I can get the best deals.

I know some places do daft offers like buy one get two free and things like that, so if you see anything would you please post it on here so I can go and grab the bargains while they're there?

Just to be clear, it's only treats I'm interested in. I can get all the staple grocery items from Aldi and such like. Thank you.

home bargains have these little chaps in for 19p

the supermarkets were doing them 2 for £1

they are dated september 2014

We don't have a lot of the cheaper stores down here in Devon. We have a Poundland and Aldi and Lidl but that's about it I think.

Yes Trago Mills is very good but they don't very often tend to do buy one get one free offers. Just a bit cheaper than everywhere else really. I'm looking for the crazy bargains that the supermarkets tend to put out at Christmas. They don't advertise much online either so it's a case of calling in which is a bit of a travel and a pain.

Does it have to be just food treats? I was thinking of something like little colouring books for the small children, I'm sure I've seen some in Aldi.

We have two Home Bargains stores. One's in town and the other is on an out town retail park. It's a brilliant store.

£land is great everything £1, dont fall for ca&burys freddo faces in a square tube, you get three packs of 7 faces and only fill half of the box, it goes on weight, you might as well get 6 bars of freddo for you £.

Thanks guys. As far as colouring books etc are concerned I'm kind of thinking that the families can easily pick up things that cost a few pence for the children. I'm definitely thinking more along the lines of selection boxes/stockings which can get a bit pricey if buying for more than one child. Also things like boxes of mince pies, cakes etc for the adults.

I'm just looking for offers in the supermarkets thanks.

You could try using mysupermarket .co .uk - it compares prices of a particular item for the big four and Ocado, also Aldi but that doesn't do many brands. Try searching for "chocolate multipacks" or "selection box". The offers change from Tuesday to Wednesday, sometimes they go on for a month or more but they always end on a Tuesday.

Also, have you considered Wilkinsons? They have very good prices on Christmas goodies, often better than the supermarkets.

And - just a thought - seeing as it's Christmas, you could try appealing to Tesco's (or other) better nature (lol!), and just asking for some. Just ask for the store manager. They're always banging on about how they do things for their local community - here's a chance for them to put their money where their mouth is.

Hiya duck. I tried mysupermarket and moneysupermarket but it drove me crazy! We do have a Wilkinsons in town so could also try that. Don't know if the supermarkets would be willing to give anything as we're not anything actually to do with the foodbank, we're just giving a big donation as it's Christmas.

What about a cash and carry where you can buy whole boxes of sweets they might do you a deal.

The supermarket where I work had a collection last week for our local foodbank and they donated 1/3 again. There was also an appeal in the local paper for sweet treats for the foodbanks, in our store we sell the little bags of Haribo at 10 for £1 I think it was so my friends and I bought a couple of boxes and donated them ideal for Christmas stockings.

There are some who do very last minute bargains on xmas stock, knowing either packaging or content will mean it wont be selling much after close of business on xmas eve...others wait a day or two more, but of ourse that's fine timing, and not always possible. Merlin's bears look good, but it's a nice practical thought in these increasingly Dickensian times.
