A scam?

I have BT TV and this morning I got an email from them saying that from 8th of June (it's now the 9th???) I would be getting six new channels but from the 30th June Discovery and Fox would be removed. If I was happy with the changes, there was no need to do anything.

There was no phone number in the mail which looked just like any other BT mail and there were no spelling mistakes. There was a "contact us" link though.

Sooooo, I phoned BT, first they'd heard of it and they said it was a scam. So what was the idea? Was it that they hoped people would click that "contact us" link or what?

An update:-

A couple of weeks ago I found out "by accident" that Discovery wa being removed from Now TV (which provides some channels to BT TV). SO, the email wasn't a scam at all but the people I spoke to at BT didn't know about it. Discovery was removed during the week that the finale was due of a programme I'd been watching for weeks so I missed it!!!!!!!! Boy, was I annoyed?

I have changed my provider from BT to Sky and broadband and TV went live this week (BB & phone on Wednesday, TV yesterday).

Now I'm expecting an argument about "cancellation fees". I've told BT they're in breach of contract as Discovery was part of my package. The people I spoke to agreed but I'm expecting charges to be added to my final bill and I'll have an argument to get them taken off!! We shall see?
