Covid-19 chaos?

I guess everyone is sick to death of hearing about this, that and the other about covid-19?

People are blaming "The Government" for more or less everything BUT....... what do you expect the government to do? OK, so some of them are waffling about like headless chickens but the core advice should be followed?

At the moment there's enormous queues at some testing sites but at others, they're completely deserted. Yesterday I saw pics of at least four sites that were deserted and the testers just hanging around.

People have been told NOT to get a test unles they've got the "right" symptoms but it's been said that at least 30% didn't have symptoms.

There's been a shortage of tests and also a long delay in getting the test result back but there are not enough lab facilities to process them. You can't just magic up a lab, technicians and equipment "just like that".

They set up a drive in testing site here and of nearly 1500 people tested, less than ten were positive.

On top of all that, people have been told that transmission is by close proximity but will they stop crowding together? Will they heck. People just will not do as they're told and follow advice.

So, asking again, what the heck can "The Goverment" do if people just will not follow advice?

We're on lockdown again here, can't visit anyone in their home being told not to use public transport if possible but can go to pubs, school and restaurants where it's likely to be crowded and no social distancing being kept to.

Yes, OK, to be honest I am sick and tired of hearing everybody going on about Covid all the time. There's absolutely nothing that any one of us can do in order to make everybody else stick rigidly to the rules and comply with the instructions issued by the government. If you take a closer look the system's completely broken - for example, the fiasco with people applying for Covid testing. Why on earth aren't people being referred locally, instead of, for example, a person living in Portsmouth attempting to book a Covid test online and subsequently being told to attend a coronavirus testing centre based in Liverpool?

Another thing that's likely to be having a negative effect on things is the constant influx of people from overseas coming into the country, thus increasing the total number of people in the UK and putting further strain on the system. Until we've got this disease under control I would say that with the exception of essential travel, such as for trading reasons, any travel in or out of the country ought to be completely prohibited so as to try to limit the spread of the disease, either out of the UK to overseas nations, or from oveseas nations and into the UK.

From virtually day one I've said there should be a total ban on foreign travel in or out of the country.

The virus didn't get here on it's own, it was brought in!

Portsmouth was one of the places where the testing centre was deserted!

Whoever developed the app for tests clearly hasn't done it properly?

It's simple, ignore it. I have no interest in the pansies worrying about a virus that most of us are immune to anyway. I don't own a mask and never will. I've blocked all references to it in my browser and email. And it's quite fun to walk into a shop and watch them panic. I had the Royal Mail guy wearing TWO masks, gloves, and with a perspex partition in front of him insist I put my mask on. When I said I didn't own one he panicked, I could see him sweating. Parcels and receipts were handed across at arms length, it's pathetic. The government should have imposed no restrictions whatsoever and let everyone choose their own level of safety.

On the way home this afternoon the schools were coming out.

The older pupils have obviously never heard of social distancing.

There's nothing wrong with being cautious, nor does it mean that the people who are doing so are pansies. Some people have underlying health conditions that make them more susceptible to coronavirus than other people, and therefore if they were to contract the disease they would stand a far greater chance of becoming yet another statistic and adding to the coronavirus death toll.

The fact that you say "I don't own a mask and never will...and it's quite fun to walk into a shop and watch them panic" really does show you up as a very immature and irresponsible person. We're all in the middle of a global pandemic here - it's people like you who fail/refuse to take adequate precautions who are more than likely going to be the ones to catch it and spread it to other people, with potentially fatal consequences. Do you really want to have that on your conscience if you do catch coronavirus at some point and subsequently end up spreading it to other people, some of whom subsequently end up dead as a result? Personally, by the tone of your post, I get the impression that you really couldn't care less if that did happen, and would be more than likely to burst out laughing if you found out that this had indeed actually happened as a direct result of your actions...

Looks like they have more sense than adults then. Oh and kids are less likely to die anyway, since they have better immune systems.

SOME people have underlying helath conditions. Those folk can hide indoors or wear masks, but that does not explain the majority of the population doing so.

My life, my choice. I don't wear a seatbelt either, because they protect ME and me only.

And have you ever bothered looking up the stats? Even at its peak, Coronavirus killed less than cancer. And was a tiny little fraction of the world population growth rate. 80% of us don't even get symptoms when we catchg it. Those that do probably just lie in bed for 2 weeks. So not really an extinction event then. Not worthy of screwing up the entire world by shutting down businesses.

Coronavirus is a worldwide pandemic. At present there is no cure for it, nor is there a vaccination widely available that can successfully prevent people from contracting the virus.

Cancer has been around for way longer than coronavirus. Therefore it stands to reason that cancer has killed more people to date. However, cancer does not spread from person to person by close contact, or by being coughed or sneezed upon by a person with the disease. Coronavirus, however, can be transmitted to other people in this manner. It can also be contracted by touching surfaces that a person with coronavirus has recently been in contact with. I know of a person who became ill with coronavirus as a result of touching surfaces that had not been sterilised after a person who was found to have coronavirus had touched them, so I know that it can be spread in this way.

Have you actually known anybody who has been seriously ill with coronavirus? I suspect not. And it can certainly put people out of action for more than two weeks when they become seriously ill with it, often with side-effects lasting for several months afterwards.

The reason a lot of people wear masks is either they're worry-warts or they believe the government/media propaganda. It's always the same, people see on the news that 1000 people have died of something, but forget that's out of 70 million. So that's a 1 in 70,000 chance. I believe I took a bigger risk going skydiving.

I wasn't talking about to date, I was saying that cancer is killing more people PER DAY than coronavirus. You might aswell worry about shark deaths.

You suspect correctly, I don't know anyone who's been affected because virtually nobody has! 80% of us wouldn't even get symptoms even if we caught it!

Anyway, I ain't going out of my way to look after the health of millions of people. I'll look after me, you look after you.

And it is true that exercise, cold baths, etc do increase your immune system. 80% of us fight it off without even knowing we had it.

BTW, how did you get your sig to work? When I try (on two browsers), the button to save it remains greyed out.

To say that virtually nobody has been affected by coronavirus is disrespectful not only to those who have been affected by it, but also to the bereaved friends and family of people who have actually lost loved ones to the disease.

Nothing happens at all. My sig (and everything else on that settings page) is currently blank. I entered a sig and clicked the save button and it did nothing. I tried just the word "Test" in the signature box, still nothing. I tried filling in all the boxes, still nothing.

Contact Ebay?! Hahah! Funniest thing I've heard all week. If you can actually get hold of someone, he won't read or understand the question and will paste a stock answer to something completely different. Pay peanuts, get foreign monkeys.

i said the same thing, this virus will never be got rid of as long as there is free movement, especially between countries.

i went into town last week and wore my mask in every shop i went in, but was staggered by the amount of buyers in each store that were`nt wearing one, i could`nt believe it.

The goverment keeps telling people to follow the rules, but they did`nt during the first lockdown, so what makes it any different now?

I also think people have become `collateral damage` as well, to keep the economy going, which i think is more important to them, which is fine, untill it kills us all and there`ll be no economy at all then 🙂

i read a couple of weeks ago that a fifth of the population think this virus is a hoax, others think it`s the mobile phone masts and other things, so good luck getting them to follow the rules!
