If nothing from space hits us, the world will last another 4 billion years when the Sun gradually expands and fries us.

The Sun is a star, stars die when they burn up all their fuel. A huge star explodes in a supernova, a star the size of our Sun expands as it loses mass as it consumes all it fuel. In it's final "death throes" it'll just shrink....

There's so many "suspects" these days..... apart from "the usual".....

Some are claiming the Mayans predicted the end of the World and when nothing happened on that date, the nutters wriggled the dates claiming that date was wrong so they picked on today instead.

The thing is the Mayans did not predict the end of the World and even if they had done, why should we believe it?

It's the same with all the ancient people. If there was something that couldn't be proved wrong at that time, it was accepted. They could predict all sorts of things for some time in the far distant future without fear of being proved wrong. Also, others who "predicted" things did so in such a vague way that believers will latch on to any coincidence that happens to "fit" if you wriggle the truth a bit. They're all crackers.
