Whirlpool.

I guess most will have seen the product recall for washing machines made by Whirlpool (under a couple of names)?

I wonder if you'd be interested in my experience over it?

On 21st December I called the recall number and had a difficult call with a chap who was using a very muffled headset. I gave my model number and serial number and was told my machine was NOT subject to recall. I got an email confirming that it wasn't on the recall list.

Later that evening I saw a BBC news item where people had been complaining that they couldn't get through to the recall line or it had taken hours to do so. I got through in a couple of minutes.

HOWEVER..... further down the news page was a list of model numbers subject to recall and..... mine WAS on the list.

I then used the recall web page to go through the process of checking and to cut a long story short, YES, it said my machine WAS subject to recall. I got an email confirming that.

As it was late that night, I decided to phone them the next day and did so. Again I got through in a minute or two. I went through the whole rigmarole again and the different chap (much clearer) I spoke to said YES, my machine was subject to recall. Again, I got an email confirming it.

Eventually (this year) I got an email requesting me to pick a delivery date for collection of my old machine and delivery of a new one, I picked January 17th (yesterday). I got a confirmation email with a note that I would be contacted the day before to confirm everything.

Sooooo, on Thursday (16th) I waited in all day waiting for a contact..... Nothing. I phoned.... they said I'd get a text next day!!

Just after 7am I got an email saying they were on their way. At 8:01am I got a text saying they were on their way.

The email had a "track your order" link so when I tried that it said they had 28 deliveries before me!!!! I kept checking during the day and it seemed that they were making one delivery every 15 minutes. I calculated that at that rate it'd be about a quarter to five before they got here.

I eventually got a phone call saying they were coming, then another looking for some directions by which time they were on the lane here. The time was around a quarter to five.

Two chaps came and took the old machine out, unpacked and brought the new one in, connected up, checked it worked and were gone. I was their last delivery (out of 34). They were very quick and efficient.

My old machine was nearly exactly 3 yers old and I'd had no problems with it.

This morning I got a letter telling me not to use my (old) machine and to stick the enclosed sticker on it. A bit late??

There. That was my experience. The only thing I'm annoyed about is hanging around all day Thursday for nothing and hanging around all day yesterday.

Well...what does whirlpool mean ?..."a quickly rotating mass of water into which objects may be drawn" !

From your experience cee-dee, congrats...you came out unscathed !

Well now, an update. A few minutes ago I got an email :-

Dear Customer, Thank you for taking this time to check whether your appliance is affected by Whirlpool's recall notice. Your unique reference number is ********

Unfortunately, we have checked your washing machine against our systems and can confirm it is affected by this product safety issue.

Etc, etc..... That was clever? I phoned their customer service number and after the recorded message it cut off.... three times. Eventually I spoke to a chap (who was around Newcastle area) and he had to "ask his supervisor" and eventually told me to ignore the email!

You watch... there'll be more after this because he didn't ask who I was so I'm expecting another mail sometime soon telling me when a new machine will be delivered. Left hand, right hand? Great fun eh?

Oh dear, I thought it was plain enough and taken as read that I told the chap I'd received a new machine last Friday.

Their left hand sure doesn't know what their right hand's up to because I got another "warning" letter and sticker (that's two) this morning.

You'll probably be sent another new machine! Doesn't sound a very efficient company

I'm hoping they don't start mucking me about. If they ask for the model number now, it's one that's not on the recall list.... See where I'm going with this?
