Should we be worried or are the US paranoid?

Complex issues I know as we already incorporate their technology and hard to stop it now, but would China really want to dump on their own doorstep? Who would trade with them if they were found to be carrying out activities that were a high security risk?

Is it OK if they are kept out of the 'core'? Can cyber security organisations be vigilant enough?

Any thoughts? Are you worried? Do you care?

Interesting question. I think the concerns are founded on what could happen.

As to the pronunciation of "Huawei" (see the final paragraph in that link), it might be better to consider it as "Hoo-are-we"?

Personally I don't feel threatened. I have a Huawei phone and find it hard to believe that any spy would be interested in the trivial conversations of a housewife with her friends and daughters, or their holiday snaps, or what they buy on eBay! As for those who could pose a security risk, I can only hope that Government ministers are careful what they click on.

I have no worries on a personal level but I had read the article that ceedee included before I posted the thread.
The idea that all communications could be disrupted or power stations be shut down

Yes, that's a major concern but surely as with all the "concerns" there must be ways to prevent those happenings?

There is risk with almost everything these days, I dont think this is any more worrying than anything else.

Im more concerned about the many and varied natural disasters happening with evermore frequency. Another earthquake tonight for instance, so far not much damage and no deaths, but I find the chances of more is far more worrying.

I would hope so but I guess that can't be 100% guaranteed.
However, as I mentioned before, China would be shooting itself in the foot with international relations and trade if they were found to be up to no good.

Still, no way should we just do what the bully Donald demands and get involved with Trump's trade wars. I'm glad to see that Boris looks likely to stand up to him over this and some other issues. Perhaps he won't be the poodle to Trump like Blair was to Bush.

Expect insulting tweets from across the pond soon!
