Crazy pricing?

I was in Sainsburys yesterday and noticed a shelf of Paxo stuffing getting attention from shoppers. To be expected I suppose as Christmas is coming?

Anyway, I had a look and a 190 gram pack was £1. Right next to it were two packs together priced at...... £2.49. Are they mad or what? I wonder if people took two separate packets to the checkout whether they'd be charged £2 or the £2.49 price?

I didn't buy any because a 240 gram pack is £1 at Iceland = 50 grams more for the same price.

I have noticed an awful lot of price increases lately.

For example our fav pizza has increased in price over £1. same size etc. A sure sign Christmas is coming.

I have noticed a lot of similar offers in the supermarket at the minute to the one you mention. I can only assume that the stores are hoping people will not notice. i would say people would be charged £2.49 at the till.

Saying the above our local Tescos messed up recently and priced 15 cans of Coca Cola in a box for £2.50 instead of £5 on offer.

They did not realise until all the boxes flew out the store and afterwards realised why.

Thats another thing. You used to be able to buy a netted bag of mixed nuts in their shells.

Where i live, yes you can still buy them.....minus brazil nuts. If you want brazil nuts you have to buy a bag separately. This does increase the price considerably

Brazil nuts are troublesome little beasties, they always fly out of the nutcracker, same with walnuts - dangerous things!

I'm allergic to hazlenuts and I don't like almonds so brazils are my nut of choice - I just make sure noone is in firing range when I crrack them!

I am partial to cashews but prefer the cashew nut butter, it's really nice. I've seen they sell brazil nut butter too but it's fiendishly expensive, still think i'm going to have to give it a go.

If I'm cracking Brazil nuts I always do it in a large plastic bag to save bombarding family with bits of shell.

I do the same when I'm cutting my toenails.

The way to deal with brazil nuts in my opinion is buy them covered in lovely thick chocolate.

mmmmmmmm, that way they are already deshelled and with a tasty coating.

I notice Beer deals on multipacks of cans in supermarkets

sometimes you can buy 15 cheaper than 10 (full size Cans)

and many variations on the above

Price rises

Tescos, that's where I have shopped for ready meals, for years, in fact as long as I can remember

Didn't bother Me, that it meant paying a bit extra for their 'Finest' range, the quality and portion size suited Me

But I stopped buying them, soon after the summer, the quality and portion size has slipped quite badly, the range of choices has also shrunk, while the price has risen

I put this comment up on Tescos YouGov link and People supported my comments by 3 x 1

I now buy M&S ready meals - great quality and good Portion size - costing slightly more, but worth it

Another quirk of pricing

when they separate 2 for 1 deals - and put them on the 'Reduced Item shelves'

Buying 2 reduced items, can cost the same (or more) that the original 2 for 1 price, but are close to Use by date ?

It's just a planned strategy crazy or otherwise. It must work otherwise it wouldn't be done.

I would have thought that people would be charged £2 if they had 2 separate packs.

The one pack's bar codes would scan as £1 each, whereas the bar code on the double pack would scan as £2.49

Al, I've had that argument many times in Morrisons.

I say the reduced items are dearer than they were in the first place, they say they're excluded from any deals.

Maths has never been my strong point but I know a higher price isn't a reduction, deal or no deal.
