shameful !!

Last week was having a cigarette at the entrance to the shopping mall at Edmonton Green just outside the household brand name bakery which was on the verge of closing for the day

The various goods displayed in the window area were being cleared by tipping the contents haphazardly into large trays

In excess of 40 items were involved--cupcakes/pastries/doughnuts/tarts etc

These were obviously being scrapped--surely they could have been donated to a worthy cause ??

I'd guess that the logistics of getting a relatively small number of items to a central distribution point must be very difficult. Shops in an area tend to close at similar times so it would take almost one volunteer for each shop to collect goods and with unwrapped items special containers would be necessary and perishable items would have to be consumed in a short time frame.

It's a matter of resources, most charities are desperate for volunteers - we can all play our part by getting involved.

It is a combination of logistics and process. In my business we do get waste from time to time, it used to get dumped but now I have a charity who will collect surplus and give to those in need. This was difficult to organise until someone from the Salvation Army gave me a contact. Might be worth suggesting.

Not a smokescreen Al, if your product is fresh it needs to remain chilled, all movement of food stuffs is subject to food hygiene requirements. So I might have pre packed dairy or meat products but does a charity normally have a chilled vehicle?
Me thinks you have not worked in the food chain for some time if at all.

Greggs use fare share, and not sure if they still do used to sell some of their unused food in certain outlets, though not sure if they still do the latter since their expansion. Guess they cant do this with all outlets, but since they dont do landfill i guess they do something with it.

The irony is that I see charities on the TV, every day of the week, pleading on behalf of millions of people; who wouldn't be that fussy about the food they eat.

Thank you for your concern on behalf of myself, and all other smokers. Much appreciated.

I personally think having to go to the loo is a filthy and disgusting habit, but unfortunately we all have to do it, including Her Majesty.

I would much rather be able to swallow a pill to decompose the waste matter. A bit like a Septic Tank. However, until some Boffin discovers and develops said pill, I'll just have to put up with it. So it's 'Carry On Regardless'. *sigh*

Addendum.

I also heard somewhere that Her Majesty was quite partial to the odd Cheroot herself, after a nice banquet dinner. But don't quote me on that.
