Say Cheese

There seems to be a resurgence of farmhouse cheese makers in the UK and although Cheese does not sit top of the pile with slimming world it remains a staple in most peoples lives even if it's very low fat Philly.
With Christmas on the horizon and if you were given a voucher to buy three cheeses to go with a cracker biscuit or oatcake what would you recommend? Cheddar , double Gloucester, Red Leicester, or perhaps a tasty Lancs, Somerset Brie or a fine Stilton.
I would probably go for a Blue Dovedale, Ribblesdale Sheeps milk and Kidderton Ash goats.

So what's on your cracker?

For hard cheese first - West Country blue-veined cheddar, Local 'gypsy cheese' (cheddar with horseradish), and Spanish Manchego (from ewe's milk).

The cheese that I like best of all is white stilton with ginger ....absolutely scrumptious ....just so moist ...yummy .

The only problem is that it is VERY difficult to source ......used to be able to buy it at Waitrose but no longer live near to any such supermarkets ...

Not had any for years ....Wensleydale with ginger is readily available but there is no comparison ....

So for me it would be 3 helpings of Stilton with ginger ....maybe even with a ginger oatcake ...absolute heaven ....

Good cheddar is hard to beat in all it's guises and I love that West Country mentioned.
White Stilton is amazing, there are a couple of first class producers and I have had the ginger which is excellent as is the Apricot.
Without being overly specific what part of the uk are you in Millie?

Have tried lots of specialist cheese shops with no luck ...only the mango and ginger is available ...its not the same ...

Googled that myself earlier ( as soon as this thread started as it very much made me want to have some ) ....however the minimum postage charge is £6 so you would really need to buy a huge piece of chees to make the postage costs worthwhile .

Worth bearing in mind for a family party though ......

Maybe if you have a local deli you could ask if they could order some in? I'm sure it would be popular enough that none would go off before it was all sold, and if they know you like it and might be a regular customer perhaps they would oblige.

Good old unadulterated blue stilton, manchego, a cornish Cheddar cheese from a place not far from me.

I like a Scottish mature cheddar, but as that's always in my cheese box I will choose three of my other favourites: Stilton, St. Agur, and a soft goat's cheese

Lancashire bomb - it's an amazing cheese in black wax.

You cut of the top and scoop it out - it has a lovely flavour and texture.

I'm going to try and get some this Saturday for the festive weekend as i will last for quite a while with the little top replaced.

I've just found a link to a place that makes them in different flavours too - our local farmer's market stall only stock the black one.
