Last will and testiment. Help!!!!

Me a simpleton needs help with my Dad's will.

What do I do? Can I go to any solicitor and get help to understand it. Will it cost me?

Never had to do anything like this before and I am baffled. Any advice would be most appreciated, thank you. xx

Unless you know exactly what you are doing, leave well alone, otherwise you'll end up seeking solicitor's advice every third day, and that's going to cost you an arm and a leg. If it's a fairly straightforward will, a solicitor should have the whole thing wrapped up within a year. It won't cost a king's ransome, and will free you of technical jargon which you won't have a clue.

Slightly off topic, when my late father thought he was an astute man and decided to name me as joint executor with another older member of the same family. Theoretically we would both work together and back one another up. What happened was this other person just walked in and decided to do everything himself, leaving me as joint executor in name only. Very clever man - knew it all and saved about £4000.00. It also took five years and three days to settle. As far as I am concerned he is finished - he no longer exists.

Leave it in the hands of a solicitor. It'll give you space to grieve properly.

Hello Busty.....sorry to hear you are having to do this. Does it not have to go through probate? I think we did this when our Mam died...and we had to have a solicitor. Probably your best move would be to consult a solicitor as to what is required. Also....if your Dad owned a property, then you would need a solicitor.

As said before, if a house is involved, then a solicitor will be required.

A few years ago, a friend of mine was executor for her partner`s will (lived together, not married)

No propery involved, just money.

The majority was left to my friend, with some other smaller bequests to family and friends.

My friend just divied it out as stated in the will, ensuring recipients signed for it.

No solicitor involved, and all done and dusted in a couple of weeks.
