Getting a new scooter thanx to DWP

Ive been needing a new mobility scooter but I couldnt afford to buy one but thanx to one of my benefits I am getting one thanx to the fact Im on HIGHEST mobility allowance. This means that I contacted a local mobility firm and told them what Id like (if possible). They came through with a very nice one. I tried it out and was happy with it. I wasnt allowed it there and then. What then happens is they gol back to their firm and wait till I told them to go ahead with it. They then contact DWP who should send a form to the firm. They will fill it in and if accepted (which it should be) is DWP stop some of my benefit and adjusts payment to the mobility firm and me. DWP will take 25 squid from me and pay the mobility firm. After a few weeks DWP will have adjusted my payment and will give me a refund of what they held back. I wont be getting this scooter for another 2 weeks but looking forward to getting it. Every three years the mobility shop will ask if I want a change or if I see one a bit better then Id tell them. Id get it the contract renewed. It MAY cost me more. Id have to see but in reality its not costing me anything. The one Im going for is a TGA Mystere. Its a class 3 model.

These mobility scooters are very handy for folk who need to just bomb around town, meet a few mates for a brew and a butty or just nip down to the shops. I've got one but mine isn't anywhere near as posh as Tims.

Mine is more like this one ...... (just a bit bigger, )

The reason for not having a bigger one is that I need to be able to take mine apart and lift it up into the back of the car. It may sound daft but our house is on top of a great long hill and whichever way you go it's about 1.5 miles down into the town centre. So what I need to do is pack my scooter into the car, drive to a town centre car park, unpack the scooter and set off round town to wherever I want to go. Get back to the car, pack it all away and then drive home.

We tried getting a bigger scooter but the 3 we tried all gave up the ghost before making it home. The batteries just weren't powerful enough to drive down into town, drive round the shops etc and then drive my 13 stone back up the hill to our house.

I'll maybe try a newer version this summer and join the jet-set.

A friend of mine uses a scooter and she has a hoist fitted in the back of her car to lift her scooter in and and out. It seems to work brilliantly for her. The Mobility people fitted it for her so maybe that's worth a look as it would save you time and effort dismantling it to get it in and out each time.

bankhaunter's idea is a good one. I've seen these car parks with mobility scooters for hire in several car parks in and around the West where I live. Maybe you should lobby your local council for one.

lhasa.one .... It's not the shifting of the scooter into the back of the car that's the problem, it's just that the battery runs out of power before the scooter gets to the top of the hill.

BTW, the Jag is now an Ex JAG. I put it in the Auto Express on Monday and a guy phoned on Tuesday and collected it on Thursday.
