Could the Canaries soon get a new island? Recent earthquakes hint at an imminent underwater volcanic eruption

In the past week, over 550 earthquakes have struck the Atlantic Ocean
On Friday, a 5.1-magnitude quake hit the southern tip of El Hierro
This seismic activity suggests an underwater volcano could soon erupt
Eruption could force masses of rock to the surface, creating a new island
In 2011, residents were evacuated following similar activity but the volcano failed to erupt

I've been watching it since it bobbed up in 2011. Last week's episode seems to have gone quiet now. Loved it when they knew where it was erupting because all the seagulls gathered for their freshly cooked fish dinners.

It didn't "fail to erupt", though, did it. It just didn't come up above the surface of the sea. It actually produced more eruption material than that Icelandic volcano that caused all the flight disruption, but because it was all under water it only affected El Hierro. I suppose that's the Mail for you, though.
