There's a little thing called the "Terrorism Prevention and Investigation Measures Act"

It allows for the Secretary of State to authorise restrictions on the free movement and actions of an individual suspected of being a terrorist.

It also makes it a criminal offence for an individual not to comply with said restrictions.

It means that someone can face legal penalties based purely on suspicion without ever being convicted of any offence.

If he did I don't know if he did anything wrong - do you?

If there is evidence that this guy has done anything wrong then put him in front of a court and let him be proven guilty of his crimes and then by all means lock him away.

The whole idea that a citizen can be limited in their movements, restricted in their activities and told who they can meet by a politician, without any of the claimed "evidence" being tested, stinks in my opinion.

Maybe you are one of the very few who believe that politicians never do anything other than what is in the best interest of the majority and can be 100% trusted to always do the 'right thing' then fine - I however, (and I suspect the vast majority of people), am not in that camp!

The international security services claim to have 'overwhelmingly strong' intelligence linking this character to terrorist activities - you say I don't know that he has done anything wrong, well equally you don't know that he hasn't.

Are you suggesting that the police are just picking on some poor innocent person at random without a shred of evidence?

Yes I am glad that the government are adopting a 'better safe than sorry approach' to our national security and I wish they had even more powers TBH as clearly the powers they currently have are not good enough.

Creeky, I don't honestly think that its humanly possible for me to care any less about this Mohammed character than I already do. I thought I made that crystal clear in my previous post.

Therefore I'm a tad baffled as to why you would think that ranting at me in red font would somehow change that ....how bizarre?

Anyway, I do respect your right to hold a differing view point to my own but I'm not sure that droning on about it on some obscure eBay chat forum will actually help to change anything.

If you genuinely feel that strongly about it, why don't you start your own online petition:

You could try to lobby support for fairer treatment of suspected terrorists currently residing in the UK or somesuch - I'm sure the British public would be falling over themselves to sign it.....good luck

I'm sorry if the red font upset you - simply a tool to differentiate my response to your post - sub-conscious indication of anger? Possibly.

As for being a rant - well that's your interpretation but calling a measured response a rant doesn't make it so and maybe puts the lie to your claim for it not to be "humanly possible for me to care any less about this Mohammed character" - you patently do care.

You may be baffled as to why I have responded - a standard way of illustrating 'bafflement' is to use multiple question marks - maybe with that information you could go back and look where I have used them.

As for petitions I don't need to start one, there already is one. I suppose at least we should be thankful that criticism of the earlier control orders which allowed for imprisonment without trial saw such orders replaced by TPIMs. Hopefully these will be repealed as well and replaced with evidence gathering measures that will see the public protected by dangerous people being lawfully convicted.

Regrettably there is a real danger that politicians will take the opportunity this case has presented to regain the earlier powers - the 'public' do appear to share your view, if the online poll by the Daily Express is reflective of their views - the question asked was, "Do the laws surrounding British terrorism suspects need tightening up?" - the yes vote was 93.1%

In conclusion I would just leave you with this - When councils have been found using powers granted under 'ant-terror' legislation, against ordinary citizens and even right wing media such as the DM describe these laws as 'Big Brother' ones then it is time to worry.
