It is a national disgrace that the Poorest in this Country, pay (in advance) the highest rates for their energy.

So what is the advice being handed out

"Shop around and get the best Fix rate deal"

some are fixed at present prices for the next 3 years

But guess who can't get these special prices,

Yes, the People paying the most via Pre-payment meters

It seems to me that one of the problems is that the poorest can't get access to information on lower utility prices, especially on prepayment meters where apparently there are nearly 4 million people using this system. Perhaps Councils could help their tenants by sending out a flyer or something to give tenants information on where/how they can get cheaper fuel prices. How many older people in council properties aged over 75 have computers? I doubt that that many do have them. They are a group left high and dry in many cases, unless they have someone in their family who can access the info for them.

We had a letter this week to thank us for our continued custom with a certain energy supplier and for that they were going to reduce the price of the standing charge, I said to my OH you know whats coming next, price hike, the winters coming. Just trying to soften us up.

Yup I knew it, our energy company have just announced this morning a 10% price hike on dual fuel, thanks Mr. Cameron for saying if you don't like the price of British Gas going up then switch. Switch to who they will all do it. Rant over.

The big six are running a Cartel,i thought they were illegal in this country?So much for competition bringing prices down.

The government in this country are a bl**dy joke, quite honestly. They've spent most of the summer talking about how 'outrageous' the price of energy is, and how they're going to do something about it, by crikey. Then the moment the energy companies announce their annual 'here comes the winter rises', extortionate as ever, they just sit there and say, "well that's alright, that's within projection!"

I'm confused now.

Why is the government being blamed for the Energy prise rises?

I may be missing something obvious or I may have missed all of the facts but I thought it was the actuak Energy companies that were putting up the price.

Everybody is welcome to kick the government whenever they like, I do it myself sometimes, but only if they deserve it.

Well historically 'blame' could be laid at the door of a Conservative government for privatising the electricity generating and distribution companies and at the feet of a Labour government for disposing of the "Golden Shares" in the privatised companies that gave the government control of who could own shares in the privatised companies.

The government are getting a kicking simply because they are not doing anything to help,even John Major says it is a disgrace that people have to choose between heating and eating,The government say they won't interfere in the free market,but if it is detrimenmtal to the well being of it's citizens,then what do we have a government for?
