Parcel Delivery Services.

Bit of a daft question to ask on an eBay chat forum but does anybody know of a company that will come to my house, collect a parcel , (35 x 35 x 20 cm or about 14" x 14" x 10" for the older folk who don't do foreign and weighing in at 4.5 lbs or just under 2kilo) from our house and delivery it, all in one piece, to another house on the south coast within a reasonable length of time. The main thing being that it gets there safely. I would also like to follow it around the country so some kind of tracking info would be good.

So can anyone recommend a reasonably priced company that can do all that?

Whoa, Steve! Before using Hermes you might want to have a look at online reviews such as http://www.trustpilot.co.uk/review/www.myhermes.co.uk, showing that Hermes is ranked 36th (out of 38) parcel delivery companies.

For delivery of a simple small package to me last month, Hermes at first took two weeks to declare that my postcode was wrong - a common scam amongst couriers when they don't want to admit they didn't bother trying to deliver - then 'lost' the replacement package.

I saw those reviews, Arfur. But then I asked myself "I wonder how many of these are sent from people with a financial interest in other companies that do parcel delivery. I mean, just think about it. If they were so bad, how come that they are still in business?

Having said that, I haven't booked with them yet.

So, who do you suggest?

Also a fan of interparcel as gives you the options of lots of different courier services plus you can pay via paypal

I cannot recommend Hermes. I have had 2 book parcels delivered by them and both times they just left them on the doorstep on the street - all day until I got back from work. Fortunately they were not stolen.

When I mailed them to say this was not a good idea, they were not interested in the quality of their service at all, but told me I should contact the company I bought the books from!

Update ..... Thanks for all the help, guys.

I don't know if it is good news or bad news but 'er indoors has put her foot down saying that seeing as how it's a pressie for a rellie and after googling loads of reviews on several companies, she'll send it via Royal Mail. Partly, I'm guessing, 'cos there is a Post Office less than 100 yards from our front door so there's no worries re collecting which is half of the battle solved.
