Unable to change email address
As subject. The email address i want to change to was associated with an account i used a long time ago. It was deleted several months ago.
"Email address is already taken. Please provide a different email address."
I have tried ebay support, but they always give the same answer - delete the account and wait a month. They're not interested that ive done this.
Any suggestions?

·2 weeks agoSome email providers allow more than one unique email address to point to the same inbox. For instance:

·2 weeks agoEven once an account is deleted the data associated with it will still be retained for a period of time, often several years, for legal compliance and fraud detection reasons (see the User Privacy Notice) so you won't be able to reuse the same email address until such time as the data is fully erased.

OP2 weeks agoI have been reading this in a lot of answers on here, but i think it's nonsense. After consulting Gemini it says:
"If eBay says "We couldn't find this eBay account" when you try to log in, but says "Email address is already taken" when you try to change it on your main account, you are experiencing a known eBay database glitch.
This happens when an email address is sitting in eBay's system as an "unverified guest profile" or a "deleted/ghost account record". Because it is not a fully registered account, the login screen cannot find it, but the system still flags the email as "in use".
I'm trying an email alias as a solution. Not the cleanest solution, but i don't know how to convince customer support they have issues.

·2 weeks agoSorry but believing what AI spits out is a massive risk.
And to be fair it even says in the response that if you are trying to change an email on an account and it’s linked to a deleted account it’ll flag as in use. That isn’t a glitch, it’s how it’s programmed.
You are unlikely to be able to use an email that was used on a deleted account. An alias address should be fine

·2 weeks agoAs far as i know once you use an email address with an ebay account you can't use it again, even after deletion.
