How do I speak to a real person in Ebay?
Summary: louscannon3 expressed frustration with eBay's reliance on AI and help pages, which they found inadequate for resolving basic issues. Other participants echoed similar sentiments about the difficulty in contacting a real person for support, with some mentioning unresolved transactions and delivery problems. There were also discussions on specific cases where items were not delivered as promised, and users sought advice on obtaining refunds. tressygirl provided guidance on navigating these issues, while other users shared experiences of contemplating leaving the platform due to persistent customer service challenges.
How do I speak to a real person in Ebay?
They arrogantly assume the AI will answer - It cant answer even the most basic question.
They arrogantly assume the help pages cover all subjects. - They dont! You just get sent in circles from the AI to the help pages. Neither are any good!

You can try and open a case for item not received, I will show you below how to do this, but be aware, if the seller has tracking to show delivery this can close the case in their favour.
You can try your payment provider, see if they can help with a refund.
To open that case, go right of the item purchased, and from More Actions select.... I Have Not Received My Item.
If you are not fully refunded within 3 days, you must escalate the case on day 4 or within 30 days from opening the case, and eBay will step in and force the refund.

You are a returning seller so your payouts will be held for longer until eBay are satisfied that the genuine seller has returned to sell, as many dormant accounts are hijacked so sudden selling activity raises red flags to eBay.
A CS agent may have told you your payout will be released in 24 hours, but truthfully, they do not know It's a security hold, so as said, when eBay are satisfied they will release your payout. You have provided the tracking to show item delivered, that is all you can do, and now it's just to wait for the payout to be released.

However, this is what happens if you do not use eBay's Simple Delivery labels.
You cannot now add any new tracking, eBay suggest sending the buyer a message with those tracking details. If a case is opened later for item not received, you will be able to add those tracking details.
Your payoutn will be held for a minimum of 14 days.
A refund is sent to whoever paid for the SD label:
If you selected 'Buyer pays’ when you created the listing, your buyer will automatically be refunded for any Simple Delivery label that isn’t used after 30 days
If you selected ‘Seller pays’ and offered free postage on your listing, you'll need to fill out the Request a refund for Simple Delivery form for the label that wasn’t used. Make sure to send your request within 14 days of your item selling

However, it has now been 16 days and I have still not received a prepaid return label. Today, you informed me that you will refund me only after receiving the item, and that I should pay for the return postage upfront and you would reimburse me later.
With respect, this arrangement is not acceptable. Since the mistake was on your part, you are fully responsible for covering the return costs directly, not asking the buyer to pay first without any guarantee. This approach is not in line with consumer rights and standard practice.

·1 year agoI couldn't agree more, the AI response I got simply said my issue didn't break the rules, so I read the page that explains how sellers need to follow the rules laid out, and the very first part was about exactly what the seller had done, photos and description of an item not being what was sent. False advertising what they were selling, by photos and description.. But the ebay AI said, no wrong doing here! I also need to talk to a human ebay agent.
eburtonlab
·1 year ago@firefly4serenity
If an item you receive does not match the description, file a "not as described" return to get your money back.
Reporting a listing is for policy violations within the listing itself, such as including contact details, or selling items that are not allowed. eBay cannot just look at a listing and somehow determine that the seller actually intends to send something else.
jpcy_127438
·8 months agoExactly, eBay does nothing to protect buyers, just enough to get some income, then they just stop bothering.
Anyone can list anything, and call it anything, so long as the monkeys at eBay don't understand what is being sold, you can do whatever you like.
I have reported so many listings for being fraudulent, inaccurate or plain wrong and eBay don't actually care if you;'re misled or not, just so long as they get their cut.
Capitalism has no honour, no conscience, no allegiances. It is only interested in, and protective of, itself.
Some humans are human in appearance only.
jpcy_127438
·1 year agoeBay staff likely have no idea this post even exists - THey would rather their customers cry and gnash than they engage their brains and provide an appropriate level of satisfaction.
We can't even block sellers! There's no easy way of resolving issues as they've replaced rationally thinking humans with useless, repetitive AI to save money.
Their lack of responsibility is embarrassing and is pushing people away from the platform. The upside to eBay's lack of engagement is replacements popping up with improved services and eBay will slowly fade away because they didn't keep up.

Use the Help & Contact page to contact eBay directly. Use this forum to ask general technical questions about eBay to see if other users have an answer.
We can't even block sellers!
You can block sellers' items from appearing in a specific search using the Advanced Search page to exclude up to ten sellers by username. Bookmark or save the search, and then use that link as the starting point for new searches to continue to block those sellers.
There's no easy way of resolving issues as they've replaced rationally thinking humans with useless, repetitive AI to save money.
Most issues can be resolved without needing to contact eBay directly. If you have a specific question or you don't know what to do, start a new thread and include some general details of what you are trying to do or what you want to know.
jpcy_127438
·1 year agoLike I said, you can't 'block' sellers (never see them anywhere), only filter some out on a search. Recommendations don't use search filters.
You have to choose from a limited set of accepted problems. If you don't have one of the problems they let you report, you have to try to convince the bots to let you talk to a human. When 'contact us' is a redirect to 'help & support'? I understand there are articles for simple problems, but more complex ones require a discussion with a human representative.
While most people only ever have simple problems, I would say that most people know how to use eBay and have no issues buying or selling. And yes, the information made available does help most people. However, the language used is not very explanatory (you can't ask a document what it means, or about specific cases, or simply for clarity) and pushing you through support documents and funnelling you through multiple choice options doesn't suit every issue, and eBay is rife with seller abuse and bugs.
eBay's support, like too many 'cost-effective' consumer engagement 'solutions', is antithetical to providing reassurance, a basis for trust and edge-case user support.
Seller blocks could even be used to rank shops and prioritise sellers with better reputations, or even remove abusive sellers (fake items, duplicate photos, poor descriptions, etc, etc.)
eBay is actively choosing to not resolve issues or improve the application to benefit buyers and hold sellers and listings to a high standard, maybe because they think they will drive sellers away which will hurt their revenue stream. Well, if they're selling fake goods, good riddance. It's literally bad for business to have high standards, eBay needs to be held to account for their lack of engagement and responsibility.

·8 months agoThat's one of the several features that HAS A BUG!!!
I NEVER get any comeback or responses to my reports.
eBay is becoming valueless to it's users.
The more a business focuses on protecting and increasing it's revenue stream, the more they neglect their customer base who ARE the actual revenue stream!! COMPLETE IDIOTS!
I think it is awfully apparent that eBay is lacking in several key experience areas and it seems to be because of a lack of technical understanding.
Convincing your userbase that THEY are the issue is PREPOSTEROUS! It is showing that damage control takes precedence over progress.
A company of *bleep*, paid by idiots and loved by fools.
How long is eBay willing to leave it? Until their users start leaving? It'll all be too little to late because all the focus was on something else and not running the business properly.
Too many technical issues and customer support is aesthetic at worst and purely placatory at best.
No real developments, no investment and a complete lack of understanding and compassion for THEIR paying users. They're spending so much time protecting their revenue stream that their revenue stream is getting angrier and angrier the more that ignore them.
BECAUSE YOU ALL SEEM TO HAVE FORGOTTEN THIS SIMPLE FACT OF BUSINESS, I WILL REMIND YOU: YOUR REVENUE STREAM IS YOUR USERBASE! YOUR REPUTATION IS YOUR USER BASE! THE REASON YOU EXIST IS BECASUE OF YOUR USERBASE.
NOW, GET A BACK BONE AND DELIVER CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THE FUNCTIONAL PLATFORM WE ALL WANT TO SEE!!!!
THIS IS SO FRUSTRATING AND UNNECESSARY!!!
I have messaged other lost users (i.e. the 'community') which is quite useless. No solution.
I HAVE called up and reported these issues MULTIPLE TIMES - I AM SICK OF CHASING AROUND EBAY'S SHORTCOMINGS, DOCUMENTING AND REPORTING THEM AND THEN GETTING NOTHING BACK - I AM WASTING MY TIME WITH THIS IGNORANT COMPANY.
WHY THE *bleep* CAN'T EBAY'S ENGINEERS DO SOME *bleep*ING BUG TESTING FOR ONCE INSTEAD OF CONSTANTLY TELLING THEIR GOPHERS TO 'TAKE THE COMPLAINT' AND THEN NEVER TALK TO THE USER ABOUT THEIR ISSUE EVER AGAIN!!
EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE - YOU DON'T ENGAGE, YOU DON'T RESOLVE YET YOU CONSISTENTLY ASK FOR FEEDBACK.
NO MORE.
EBAY CAN *bleep* OFF.
UNTIL IT EMPLOYS SOMEONE WITH BRAINS AND A DESIRE TO MOVE FORWARDS AND MAINTAIN/IMPROVE FUNCTIONALITY I AM KEEPING MY DISTANCE FROM THIS TECHNICAL *bleep*HOLE.
I MEAN IF THIS IS THE USER EXPERIENCE, I WONDER WHAT GAPING HOLES THERE ARE THERE FOR HACKERS??? O_o
