Yearly income limit before tax
Can anyone clarify how much one can earn per year by selling personal items on ebay before you pay tax. Also, is it per calendar year or tax year?

·1 month agoFor personal items, you don’t. There isn’t a limit.
The only exception is if one item is over £6,000 in which case capital gains tax may apply.
What does apply is if you sell over £1,700 (approx) or 30 items in one year. Then eBay will report your data to HMRC (and ask your National insurance number).

·1 month agoAssuming it’s the £1,700 it’s based on a calendar year

OP1 month agoThankyou. I've stopped selling at 29
I do have all sorts of odds and ends left. It looks like I'll have to wait until 2027!

·1 month agoI take it is the fact you don’t wish to give your NI number?

OP1 month agoNo, that's not the case. I just don't want to pay tax on my income

·1 month agoBut you won’t if all you are doing is selling your own personal items.
