Item Turned Up After I Refunded
Summary: peckhambear sent a £300 item to the US with tracking, which appeared lost when tracking updates stopped and the buyer opened a non-delivery case. After refunding the buyer, the package started moving and was eventually delivered. peckhambear has contacted the buyer hoping for a resolution but finds eBay's position unhelpful as they hadn't intervened. They are seeking advice on whether they have any recourse if the buyer does not respond.
Sent a £300 item to the US 6 weeks ago, with tracking.
It appeared lost, as the tracking stopped updating 2 weeks ago, and the buyer opened a non-delivery case. Believing it better to initiate a refund than have ebay stepping in, as the tracking still ahdn't updated since the case was opened, I went ahead and refunded the buyer.
At the same time, I'd also opened a missing package claim with USPS.
Lo and behold a few days later it starts moving again and today was delivered.
Have messaged the buyer, and hoping they will be honorable. But not everyone is. Spoke with eBay, and they informed me that as they hadn't stepped in to close the case, there's nothing they can do. Which feels ridiculous.
If the buyer doesn't get in touch and arrange payment or a return, do I have a leg to stand on anywhere, or am I up the proverbial creek?

·1 month agoWhenever a seller voluntarily refunds a buyer eBay's involvement in the transaction ends.
If the buyer doesn't get in touch there is nothing you can do. As they're located outside the United Kingdom you can't file a small claim against them through MCOL nor your local County Court.
Did you send the item with Royal Mail? If so, was a CN22/CN23 customs form attached to the envelope/package?
