How Can I Claim For A Missing Item Sent With Simple Delivery?
I sent an item with Simple Delivery, but it never arrived. The buyer raised an Item Not Received case, so I sent another item which the buyer did receive and he closed the case.
I tried to claim for the missing item on the Royal Mail website, but it said I can't claim on that Tracking number - I assume because I purchased it through Simple Delivery. Is there a way to claim through ebay?

·3 weeks agoAre you the buyer or the seller here ?
If you're the buyer, when a reasonable time passes your items last estimated date for delivery, open a case for each, for item not received, and escalate on day 4 if not refunded beforehand.
If you are the seller and have used Simple Delivery to send your items, ask the buyer to open cases for item not received. eBay will refund the buyers, and you get to keep the payouts.

·3 weeks agoUnder Simple Delivery eBay assumes all responsibility for loss or damage in transit once an acceptance scan has been received from the carrier. If an item isn't delivered under SD the buyer needs to open an item not received case and eBay will deal with it by refunding you themselves - you are not supposed to try and deal with the case yourself.
However, are you sure this was a Simple Delivery label? If it was an SD label and the tracking had an acceptance scan the case should have stated that as it was an SD label that eBay would deal with it and there was nothing you needed to do - did the case state something like that?

OP3 weeks agoIt was an SD label. I dropped it in a normal postbox. There have been no tracking updates to say it has even been collected by Royal Mail.

·3 weeks agoYou needed an acceptance scan - without an acceptance scan you have no protection as a seller at all. If the item is scanned by a postie during an arranged collection from you or it is scanned at a Post Office counter with a "proof of posting" receipt showing the item was accepted into Royal Mail's network you are covered. Dropping the item into a postbox offers no protection at all unless the item shows an acceptance scan at the receiving delivery/sorting office (which is a gamble).
Where Simple Delivery is concerned eBay are Royal Mail's customer, not the seller. The seller therefore cannot claim from Royal Mail as they are not Royal Mail's customer. If there is no acceptance scan as far as eBay is concerned the item was never sent and the seller therefore has no protection against loss in transit.
