Buyer possibly trying to scam seller ?
Summary: li_198286 sold a 5g gold bar to a buyer on June 14th, who later claimed it was fake after testing it at a pawn shop without providing any evidence. Despite this, li_198286 refunded the buyer, expecting the item to be returned. However, the buyer cancelled the return and ceased communication. jonatjonatjonat explains that eBay considers a refund as case closure, and the buyer isn't obligated to return the item unless refunded post return. jonatjonatjonat suggests sending a formal letter to the buyer and questions the authenticity of the gold bar initially.
So I sold a buyer a gold bar of 5g on the 14th on June which id bought off another seller on eBay in
February the June buyer said it was a fake bar, and that he had taken it too a pawnbrokers and got it tested but provided no evidence that he had or no proof. He asked for a refund I granted it him the refund for return of item on the system not by word, it appears he somehow cancelled the return process on his end once he got the refund still at this point with no evidence, he then says he'll send it back if I pay for postage after some disputes back and forward lagree too pay for it at this point, he has ignored any form of communication or made no effort whenever we have asked for his address too have item picked up from or collected from, yeah, somehow he’s closed the return process even though I’ve already refunded him the money what are my options. The original guy who had been given it by a friend too sell said it was legit and I’d asked him when the situation with the June buyer occurred if it was real and if he had proof

The buyer didn't close the return - If you refunded prior to the item being returned - ebay treat that as the case is closed and the buyer isn't required to return the item. Why on earth did you refund someone before they return the item??
If the buyer is now no longer communicating - there is nothing that ebay will do here - it is purely between you and the buyer - you could send a letter before action to the buyer.
Out of interest - do you have any proof the bar was genuine gold?
