Buyer asks for refund due to "wrong description"
Summary: sandyt2123 sold a Moleskine notebook with two pages torn out, which was clearly stated in the description. The buyer requested a refund claiming the description was incorrect. jonatjonatjonat advised that since eBay usually sides with buyers, the best approach is to accept the return and report the buyer for misusing the return system after receiving the item back. Suggestions were made to improve future listings by highlighting issues more prominently. leon842 recommended refunding the buyer and moving on, while papso22 also suggested issuing a return label and then reporting the misuse to eBay.
I had just sold a Moleskin notebook, and the buyer has now said I did not describe it correctly. The notebook had 2 pages torn out, and i put this in the description so that any potential buyer knew this. This buyer says that he wants his refund. I have replied to him and copied back to him the original wording. But should I bring this to the attention of eBay immediately? Or do I have to wait till the buyer replies? As I believe if I wait, then the buyer will just be automatically refunded by eBay and I won't be able to dispute this. What should I do? Thanks

OP1 month agoThanks everyone for your comments. Message accepted, and I have now sent an eBay postage label to them, and will wait till I get it back, and then will make a case to eBay.

·1 month agoYou need to provide a return label and refund when you get the item back. Then you report the buyer to ebay for abusing the money back guarantee.

·1 month agoBuyers generally do not read descriptions - they just see what they want to see. Best course is to refund him and move on

OP1 month agoYes they have opened a return request. I am always happy to accept a return. but in this case the buyer is lying to me about the description! It cannot be correct that the buyer can behave like this and eBay sides with them due to the process they have designed to favour the buyer over the seller?

·1 month agoSorry - but because ebay don't see the products - they will generally side with the buyer.
You don't really have a choice to accept the return. Once you've got hte product back - you can report the buyer for mis-using the return system.

OP1 month agoOK I will accept your conclusion - thanks. Its just makes it a very long winded process to correct this! It's very rarely I get a refund request, and when I do I am generally OK with the reasons given by the buyer, but in this case I am not as the buyer has lied to me.

·1 month agoThe only thing I would suggest in future is a couple of other things because never assume the buyer reads anything, let alone everything
- Include Used in the title
Include the issues in the descriptions (not just the notes as before)
Ideally, include text in the image to indicate the issues

·1 month agoWhat have they actually done? If they have opened a return request stating 'item not as described' there's little you can do but accept the return request.
If that isn't what they have done and all they have done is messaged you - just leave it until they do put in a return request.
