Urgent Support Required: Seller Fee Fraud & Faulty Item – Order #18-14233-62411
Summary: sunnyokonkwo describes a problem with a laptop purchase where the battery failed after a month. Despite contacting the seller within the return period, they were asked to pay for return postage and later scammed out of £20 for a supposed shipping barcode that was never sent. *vyolla* suggests the return policy should cover return costs, and a chargeback might be an option, but considers the £20 lost. jonatjonatjonat advises confirming the return period and recommends filing a claim with the payment provider, acknowledging the £20 is unlikely to be recovered.
I am contacting you to request immediate intervention regarding my order #18-14233-62411 (Laptop). The seller has engaged in policy-violating behavior and has essentially taken extra money from me under false pretenses.
Here are the details of what occurred:
The Issue: I purchased a laptop and used it for a month, after which the battery failed. I contacted the seller within the eligible return/contact window to report the fault.
The Return Dispute: The seller agreed to a return but expected me to pay for postage. When I went to the Post Office, the return shipping quote was £30, which is incredibly expensive. Under eBay policy, the seller is responsible for return shipping on faulty items.
The Fee Scam: The seller then offered to send me a shipping barcode if I sent them £20 directly.
The Breach: I trusted the seller and sent the £20. However, as soon as they received the money, they refused to send the return barcode and have ceased helpful communication.

·3 weeks agoIf it was a business seller I would report them to Ebay for demanding that 20 quid outside of Ebay. It costs vastly less to send a laptop within the UK, even tracked service etc with insurance. If you paid by Paypal - I recommend you set that up for future big purchases - you have an additional & likely smoother claims/returns/refund option & it may offer you a longer time in whic to claim. Maybe no good for this transaction. But good luck. Also, always buy from a Business Seller as there's more riding on it for them, re: breaches of Ebay policies & return rights/processes, & they're usually far more professional. Often a false economy to but from a private seller

·3 weeks agoThe 30 days return period is either 30 days from the delivery date or 30 days from the last estimated delivery date.
You state you used it for a month, were you definitely within the 30 days? In any event, I’d assume even if you were at the point you messaged the seller, they messed you around enough to mean you then weren’t.
I’d say make a claim with your payment provider now. But the £20 is gone.

·3 weeks agoeBay have a very easy returns policy and the seller pays for the return postage cost. The returns window is 30 days, but if you're past that and you paid with a debit/credit card or ApplePay you have 120 days to issue a not as described chargeback.
As regards the £20 you sent your seller, that would be between you and your seller and if they're ignoring you I'd say that money is now lost.
