Unable to open a second account
Summary: derbytrader2015 shared their experience of attempting to open a second eBay account for selling different items, only to face immediate suspension and a challenging call with an unhelpful advisor. cobwebcottage and others advised that multiple accounts may require a business account, especially if selling items frequently. suelel1968 suggested maintaining a single account to avoid complications, while fargvs recommended using a different email for account setup. Despite the setbacks, derbytrader2015 is seeking advice on managing these issues without violating eBay policies.
Hi All, started selling stuff on eBay - no problems at all - but wanted to open a second eBay account to look at selling separate items - in effect a much "cheaper" stream of items. According to eBay I can have separate accounts, but when I tried to set one up - it was immediately suspended. Eventually managed to get a callback from eBay - got a really helpful advisor who had to escalate call to a member of the "Security Team" to investigate further.
Second guy was very very unhelpful, said suspicious activity on account - AFTER 10 Seconds??? When pushed he then said it was a "Policy Issue" when I pressed him & asked him why because you can have more than 1 account on eBay's own site, he got increasingly confrontational - just repeated himself then again when I challenged him as to WHY and HOW TO FIX IT - asking for help, he terminated call.
Simply put - how do you guys have more than 1 account?
Separate e-mail - I can do that simply enough - but having to have a separate phone number as well??? REALLY???
Any advice please people??

·3 weeks agoIf I were you, I would just stick with one account, or one private and one business. Just build up good feedback on one account. You have to log in and out of each account and manage two email accounts (although you can use an extention of your normal email) You can log into both accounts on separate browsers, but still messy. Ebay can be unwieldy at times and I think you will regret the day you set two up.
Don't upset security, they are not allowed to discuss reasons as it gives out clues as to how to get around the issues they spotted. You don't want them closing your working account as well.

OP3 weeks agoThanks, will try that.

·3 weeks agoEbays policy is to open a business account if you are trading which it looks as though you are and offer consumer rights to buyers.
If you were trying to open another private account, I can see why they would not be too happy.

OP3 weeks agoHi Thanks for reply - but just to clarify I am only selling a handful of items, but looking to sell some unwanted items - such as clothing - cheaply. That's why I wanted a second account.

·3 weeks agoI dont understand why you need a second private account to sell different items cheaply? - 1 business, 1 private is understandable but 2 private accounts?

·3 weeks ago · EditedEven a handful of items that you bought to sell counts as trading and needs a business account.

·3 weeks agoJust to clarify , for eBay a business account does not depend on the number of items you are selling.
A Private account the one you are using, is for peeps wishing to sell unwanted used items, say a garage, wardrobe attic clear out, where you wouldn't find all those brand new boxed footwear.
A Business account is needed to sell all Brand New items like you are doing, or items bought to sell. Your username is a bit of a giveaway too as to type of account you need !
You are allowed to have a Business and a Private account, as explained a new username ID and new email is all that you require.
