What are eBay's rules for selling a record that has an explicit cover? Is this permitted? Does the sale have to be limited to buyers over a particular age? If so, how is this done? Thanks.

·1 month agoI don`t know what eBay`s rules are in regard to `Offensive` images on record covers, but sometimes you have to wonder `What on Earth were they thinking`? But as with all things it comes down to what people consider `Offensive`. Would you list a `Black and White Minstrel` album? .....`Al Jolson`......`Gary Glitter`....it`s all subjective. Personally I have no objection to `Electric Ladyland / Houses Of The Holy / or even the `Blind Faith`. If you are selling any of these just put a bit of card over the `offending` area, the buyer will know what they are buying anyway. What I do find `Offensive are the `Gun`s N` Roses`, and the `Millie Jackson` covers, but others may be OK with these? as I said......It`s all subjective.

·1 month agoI think eBay is just "playing it safe". All these albums were produced in vast numbers, and are widely available to purchase and/or to view in many places, both online and offline, but that implied consent could disappear at any time, as it did for a well known German band about twenty years ago.

·1 month ago...and eBay no longer allows sales of the Blind Faith album with its original sleeve.
I think sellers just need to use their own judgement. If you would't want your own ten-year-old seeing it, don't list it.

OP1 month agoOdd that you should mention that – I knew the person who designed it. But that was a photograph; the record I've listed is a drawing. Whether that makes any differerence to eBay I don't know.

OP1 month agoAh, thank you. In this case the "explicit" aspect is an illustration on the record's cover, so no real people are involved.

Woodstock Two album cover.
Nirvana's Nevermind album cover even ended up in the court room.

the southern states Confederate Flag on old album covers ( Lynyrd Skynyrd ) were censored for a time a few years ago. .
John Lennon' " sometime in New York City" album has a specific track with a sticker over it sometimes.
when i look at my Personal Computer screen music jukebox with the album covers. I wonder if I'm breaking any laws.
