Problem with ebay changing postage options.
Summary: rocco1504 sold a set of vintage chairs on eBay, intending for them to be 'Collection Only', but the platform mistakenly listed them as 'Simple Delivery'. This error has caused confusion about how to receive payment since the buyer paid under the assumption of delivery. cobwebcottage suggested canceling, refunding, and relisting correctly, while jonatjonatjonat advised that allowing collection could lead to potential disputes. papso22 recommended not blaming eBay publicly when communicating with the buyer to maintain cooperation.
Hi
I listed a set of vintage chairs and I've finally sold them to a chap, the problem I have is that I listed them as "Collection Only" but somewhere along the line Ebay has put that it's "Simple Delivery" and I only noticed after the buyer actually paid me.
What I'm a little concerned about is that I'm pretty sure that the buyer is okay with collecting the item, but how do I let ebay know that they've been collected so I can get paid ? As it seems that they're expecting me to send them to the buyer ?.
Thing is this isn't the first time ebay has changed one of my listings costing me a sale by changing the listing details to something totally untrue and it's really beginning to annoy me.
Thanks for looking

·3 weeks ago · EditedI suggest you don't blame ebay for this when you contact the buyer, they may know that it can only happen at the listing stage and is actually a seller error, that may make them less inclined to co-operate.

·3 weeks agoContact the buyer and explain that they have been listed with SD instead of collection. You will have to cancel the listing, refund them and relist them for the buyer to purchase again.
Make sure that you tick the collection only box.
The buyer will be given a collection code which will release your money after collection.
Double check when you list your items as there is an option for collection only and one for SD or collection combined.

·3 weeks agoYou could let them collect it. But you won’t be able to prove this to eBay.
There is a risk though that the buyer could claim the item wasn’t delivered and if they open this case they would win.
If they don’t open that case, then you would get the funds 14 days after the last estimated delivery date (not accounting for any holds on your account if you are a new seller etc) and the buyer would get a refund of the postage label costs that weren’t used in 30 days

OP3 weeks agoSo it really would be better to Refund, Relist, they buy it again, and hope we can get all of it to go through before lunchtime tomorrow?
Thanks for the advice by the way

·3 weeks agoIf your buyer is happy to do this then it can go through in minutes. All you haver to do is to contact the buyer and wait for them to get back to you (that may be the most time consuming part of this), cancel the order and relist, they re-purchase and will then have a collection code.
I agree with @papso22 though, don't spin this as an eBay error when they'll know that it isn't, just let your buyer know that you made an error in the postage section. We all make errors.
