posting an item
I posted an item. Sent it first class as buyer wanted. He gave an address not shown on account. Checked site it was delivered. Unable to mark item as sent. Told by Ebay repeatedly I should have sent it using simple delivery they kept showing the link. I must send it & pay the extra to ebay. Post I will never use. Is that the only way. Please advice.

·2 weeks agoDoes that mean you sent the item to a different address than the one provided with the order?
If you did you have zero protection if the buyer opens an "item not received" claim even with the tracking you have.

OP2 weeks agoHi yes a fool needing to make a sale at a difficult time. They said can it be sent first class in future I'll say no. I put in his address he said no & gave another not on account. I checked delivery it was delivered & he said thank you. The messages are there. Ebay can access them. If he gave false address it should not have been delivered. But he will get postage back so I've been told as I could not use it. Well loved my name it is a second hand buyer & seller googled it. Sells on ebay buy at charity shops, second hand shops & boot sales. Perfec!

·2 weeks ago · EditedThe address is likely perfectly valid - it just isn't the delivery address the buyer supplied at checkout. "Item not received" (INR) cases are mostly automated; without a delivery scan to the delivery address provided with the order you would lose such a case by default and be responsible for refunding the buyer in full as detailed here.
Under Simple Delivery the buyer purchases the postage/shipping label (provided the seller hasn't chosen "seller pays") and is also given a choice of standard or express delivery - express costs more. Where Royal Mail services are concerned the choices are Tracked 48 (standard) or Tracked 24 (express). As you didn't use the label that was purchased by the buyer the buyer will be refunded for it; you have therefore left yourself out of pocket for the cost of the postage.
You should have used the Simple Delivery label that was provided by eBay and told the buyer the item would be sent via the service they chose to purchase.
Are you referring to yourself or the buyer (your username suggests yourself)?

·2 weeks agoPrivate sellers need to use Simple Delivery for the items eligible, to be able to mark items as dispatched, and to facilitate a faster release of the payout for the item.
SD does have benefits you may not be aware of. If an item is lost in the post, eBay refund the buyer, and the seller gets to keep the payout. If an item is damaged in transit, received broken, again eBay pay that refund, seller keeps the payment for the item.
In your case , you cannot mark the item as dispatched or add new tracking, your payout will be held for a minimum of 14 days.
Should a case for item not received be opened, you will be able to enter the new tracking number.

·2 weeks agoTo mark dispatched click on Get prepaid label > Print label for the original SD label It will remain unused and the cost will be automatically refunded to the buyer in 30 days (assuming they paid for it).
Payment may be held for 14 days but you should get it after that. if ebay class you as a new seller it may be held for 30 days. Either way you will get it in the end.
