PERFUME WITHOUT BOTTLES OR USED PERFUMES
Summary: 197lynn expressed frustration over eBay removing their listings for perfumes, questioning the inconsistency of enforcement. jonatjonatjonat pointed out the clear policy on cosmetics sales and linked to the relevant rules. *vyolla* clarified differences in category rules for empty bottles. fargvs and tea_and_tortoises elaborated on the policy against selling used perfumes. theelench speculated on reporting by competitors and the use of AI in enforcement, suggesting eBay's approach is outdated. Overall, the discussion highlighted concerns about policy enforcement and system limitations.
Ebay have removed two items that i listed over the past few months. They make the rules up as they go, there are thousands of perfumes listed without bottles or part used. It is ridiculous that they target sellers randomly, and not make it a strict rule. It should be one or the other.
Even perfume websites sell bottles without boxes.!
Has anyone else had this problem with Ebay, they accuse you of "violations" It is hard enough to sell stuff on here without picking on sellers, what a waste of time.

·1 month ago · EditedAs you have been advised, it is a strict rule. Ebay don't allow the sale of partly used perfume at all.
They do allow you to sell perfumes without the original box but then you would have an issue with posting.
Evri don't allow you to send perfume at all. If you use Royal Mail, you will be asked at the Post Office if the perfume is in its original packaging. If it isn't, it won't be accepted.

OP1 month agoIt appears to be a strict rule but not enforced ! They removed one of my listings because there was not an original package pointless comment to point out the rules when they are not being implemented. Ebay is packed with these items, surely you can see that.

·1 month agoIf they list in Fragrances - then you can only list as New. So you end up with sellers lying. Are you suggesting ebay check EVERY item that gets listed?
If they list in Collectable Perfume Bottles ebay assumes that they are empty. Again, it would require ebay to check every listing for a reference to words like 50ml - and even then, it would have to be in context of it saying 50ml left or something like that.
AI could possibly get there, but there will still be errors. The current system is the best you are going to get. Occasionally, listings get taken down for being against policy. What would be your suggestion to ebay? How would you police this?

·1 month agoSometimes the reason suggested for one seller being targeted when there are so many similar listings that are not deleted is that it's impossible for ebay to police millions of listings. So it has to rely on reports that a listing violates policy and that such reports are often made by competitors to shut down another sellers listings.
How true that is I have no way of knowing but that it can happen seems reasonable.
But with ebay's increasing use of A.I, which I've read on here is so quick it can search the whole UK taxpayer data base in minutes looking for links between names, addresses, bank accounts and selling on multiple sites etc., I think ebays selective approach to whose listing is allowed and whose is taken down is becoming untenable.
Ebay can now search millions of listings in minutes, assuming it wants to, should offer a consistent set of rules for all sellers and enforce them consistently.

OP1 month agoExactly, the system is way out of date, all "violations " should be flagged up when a listing is added, surely that is not hard to set up in this day and age. For example the title should be a warning sign ! ALERT ALERT !!

·1 month ago · EditedSuggest that some brand owners are reporting your listings --- or/and, your listings are not New, Unopened, not sealed in manufacturers original packaging and/or decanted --- the sale of opened, used perfumes and cosmetics is not allowed for obvious health /hygiene reasons >

·1 month agoWhat does it matter what other websites do?
It doesn’t matter what others do on eBay either. Lots of people speed and don’t get caught. Try using that as an excuse if you do.
The policy for cosmetics is clear. If you break it, you are risking getting a violation

OP1 month agoi'm not trying to "get away" with something if I see thousands of sales like mine then what does that say ? Ebay has a duty to sellers and buyers to provide a consistent service /platform. The system is massively flawed. i.e. There are 6700 EMPTY perfume bottles listed (vintage collectors etc) and they can't remove them ?
*vyolla*
·1 month agoIf the empty (presumably collectable) bottles are listed in the correct category, not Health & Beauty, then they may be sold.
If they contain even a ml of perfume then they can't be sold at all on eBay. The policy on perfumes that @jonatjonatjonat has linked to is very clear.

OP1 month agothanks for that.
