Paying with your funds
Summary: suelel1968 advised against using eBay balances for payments, highlighting risks such as lack of refunds or chargebacks. They experienced an automatic deduction from their balance and had to manually change it. sml192 suggested using balances for low-value items only, noting eBay's 30-day guarantee offers some protection. They also mentioned that purchases over £100, part-funded by an eligible payment method, are fully covered by Section 75.
Hi, I realise that we will only be able to buy postage labels from early September with a card if we have no balance. Today however, i bought a blanket and although I said "pay with Paypal", it had already deducted my funds balance from the amount to pay. I had to untick a box for it to be removed. I am opposed to paying with my balance. I seem to remember someone who posted about doing so and having no recourse when it went wrong. No paypal refund or Dr/Cr card charge back, no Section 75. It is visibly displayed, so if you are aware of the issues which might incur by paying with your balance and you don't want to do it it is not difficult to change.
I would strongly advise against using your Ebay balance to pay for goods. What does everyone else think?

OP1 week ago@sml192 all valid points. I still think eBay being the judge and jury over funds is unacceptable. I get what you mean about low value items, however my blanket order was £11 and I would want that back if they told me it was delivered, when really it was delivered somewhere else. We have seen how many times these issues are not dealt with properly by eBay.
Do we know if PayPal will still be available for purchases going forward?

·1 week ago · EditedI think paying with 'eBay balance' is fine for low value items that only require a visual check when received as eBay's 30 day Money Back Guarantee should then be more than sufficient. For anything high value or that could potentially become defective the additional protection provided by payment providers is invaluable so paying by 'eBay balance', or for that matter 'Pay by bank', should definitely be avoided.
Note, for items costing over £100, if the purchase was part funded with 'eBay balance' and part funded by a payment method that qualifies for Section 75 protection then the whole purchase amount would be covered under Section 75.
