Overseas Buyer Prevented By Ebay From Providing Email Address?
Summary: bitternloco4464 experienced an issue with a buyer from Switzerland who refused to provide their email address for shipping purposes, citing advice from eBay. Other participants suggested solutions, such as using eBay's provided contact information or referring to eBay policies which allow sharing contact details post-transaction. bitternloco4464 struggled with accessing the necessary information on eBay's platform. A participant suggested using the Global Shipping Program to avoid such problems in the future. bitternloco4464 expressed appreciation for the help but faced difficulties navigating eBay's system.
I recently sold one of my records to a buyer in Switzerland. The selected courier, Royal Mail International, require his personal email address as part of the form filling process and presumably it is to do with the tracking system. When I asked him for his email address he refused to let me have it and said that he had been told by ebay that supplying his email address was not allowed under ebay rules. He went on to say that as a result he now needed to cancel the sale and obtain a refund which I have had to organise for him.
I have not come across this situation before and I wonder if he has been misinformed by ebay. If what he has been told is correct then how are we supposed to send out ebay items to our overseas buyers?
I would be grateful for people's views on this. Thanks.

·2 weeks agoUnderneath the order details where it says 'show contact information' there is a unique e mail supplied by Ebay for each seller/sale.
This is accepted by couriers who require this information.

OP2 weeks agoThanks for this but when I look at the order details for the item in question I can't find 'show contact information'. What am I doing wrong?

From your paid and dispatched orders, click on the number above the photo which says order details. Far right where it says 'order' at the end, it says 'show contact info' with a drop down arrow,

OP2 weeks agoThanks for the further info. but I'm afraid I'm still struggling with this. I'm not on a lap top, I'm on a PC if that makes any difference. I can't find a number above a photo - the photo showing the item sold has nothing above it?

·2 weeks agoPC is great.
Go in to your seller hub ( main page).
2nd header at the top is Orders - choose paid and dispatched.
Find the item. Above the photo of your item is a number. If you hover over it, it will say order details.
Open this, go over to the far right where it says Order in bold.
Under buyers name, it will say show contact detail.
The ebay Email is there.

OP2 weeks agoI'm back again and still struggling a bit. You mention the seller hub - how do I find it, is it on a new system. I seem to be on My ebay which I assume is the old system. If I stay on the old system does that mean that I cannot find the ebay email.

·2 weeks agoYou can still find it.
Just go to your order list. Find the item in the list. Dont click on it, just look above the photo for the order number and then follow previous instructions.
You are looking for the screen with the sellers address on it and payment details.

·2 weeks agoThe are correct as per the Member-to-member contact policy

Generally speaking though - this only applies to messages prior to a sale and ebay block the message. After a sale, it should be possible to provide this info, often for reasons including provision of legal notices or if a refund is required post 30 days and you wish to use PayPal (for example).
