Not sure how to proceed, would appreciate any help!
Summary: klayton88 is seeking advice on handling a buyer's request for a refund after an item sold for £50 stopped working. The buyer discarded the packaging and acknowledged it worked upon receipt. **peaseblossom** advised that if it's been less than 30 days, the buyer may win a "not as described" claim, and suggested getting the item back. vinylscot agreed, recommending accepting the return and moving on, possibly reselling for parts. plentyoflifestillinit64 inquired about the time elapsed since the sale, noting that claims might be too late if over 30 days.
I'm not a proper store, I just sell a few bits I have bought for myself and changed my mind on etc. My account is about 95% buying.
I sold an item a few weeks back for the value of £50. It was in it's original box and wrapped in a tight plastic sleeve. I bought it a few years back, never used it, it sat in a draw. There will be no manufacturer warranty.
The buyer messaged me today saying it has stopped taking a charge and isn't working but they have thrown all of the packaging away. They acknowledged it had charge and had been working out of the box. They have asked me how we should proceed but it's ultimately going to end with them wanting a refund. Then I'm left with a product that was working when I sent it and now without it's original packaging. I've never had a buyer need to return anything, certainly not in worse shape than it was when it was sent, minus packaging.
How do I reply to the message? My current seller level is above average but I've never had a dispute.
Thanks

·1 month agoWhen you say a few weeks back how many weeks back .If you sold it and the buyer received it over 30 days ago they are probably too late to make a claim

·1 month agoAssuming the buyer is telling the truth, the item would have stopped working if you had used it yourself, and I'm sure you would want a refund if you had only bought it recently. Just accept the return graciously, and move on. Depending on what the item is, you may be able to re-sell it for parts or repair, or you may be able to fix it youself.

·1 month agoIf it's been less than 30 days from delivery and the buyer opens a "not as described" return they would almost certainly win. eBay tend to favour buyers and even though the packaging has been thrown out it sounds like the item was not fit for purpose so buyer would be entitled to a refund. Get it back first. If you refuse you risk ebay refunding without the item being sent back.
