New listing page layout with larger photos

·1 week agoWell, I’m glad it’s back. However, desperate for any sale, I wasted a good five hours on Sunday rearranging the photos on 250 listings across two accounts for the best possible display in the new three-picture gallery, only to wake up on Monday to find the old gallery was back. Thanks, eBay.

OP1 week agoArgh!! 😖 I did think about rearranging my photos, but had a flashback to all the fiddling about adjusting prices when the BPF was introduced, and couldn't face it...
We don't know for sure if the old arrangement is back for good... eBay don't seem able to stop messing about with the layout at the moment. Did anyone notice the Gallery view on the main search results page suddenly displaying 4 photos to a row, instead of 3? Viewing on a pc, it made the photos too small/ too close together for comfort. No doubt the 'young folk' are mostly viewing on other devices these days... 🐣

·1 week agoI always use List View but I had a look at Gallery View and mine are still showing 3 in a row. It must be another feature they're testing on some accounts but not all.

OP1 week agoIt was quite a few weeks ago, but I seem to remember it was like it for a few days, then reverted back to 3 in a row. Hopefully they have abandoned the '4 in a row' idea...
I'm sure they're sneaking in even more Sponsored items... I was browsing shoes this evening, and on Gallery view (60 items per page) there were 5 rows of Sponsored items before I reached the end of the page... How long before every other row will be a Sponsored row?!

It's so easy to miss the button at the top saying "See all X images", and even if you saw it, it's easy to forget to go back to the top when you've seen the visible few images. I've done it myself as a potential buyer. The least they could do is put a button AT THE BOTTOM as well. And it shouldn't need a customer to make that suggestion, it should have been obvious to the designers that a button at the bottom was necessary. I'm so fed up with ebay fixing things that aren't broken and then making a hash of it.

To quote sort-of "Ask not what ebay should be doing for me. Ask how much I'm doing for ebay by just coming on their site?
It's worked for while, but for how much longer. They're p*ss*ng off more buyers and sellers with every 'improvement' they make.

·2 weeks agoAs a buyer I do not like this. I can no longer see multiple pictures at the side to get an idea if I'm interested or move on quickly. I now have to open the picture page instead of being able to move over/scroll them at the side. I browse hundreds of items daily.
As a seller I do not like this. Buyers may miss what they need to see, now only seeing 1 large and 2 smaller pictures.
It's infuriating because it seems that we're constantly being surprised by changes that are for the worse, every week (just like the new Royal Mail International postage label, which is impossible to print, i had hoped for years for a label printer option but a few days ago was a bigger step back). When there's still hundreds of unresolved things that could be implemented by ebay, spent time on by ebay, that make it easier and faster for us to get listings live, such as order by alphabet tab in where we make the variations in multi variation listings (to save endlessly dragging names when new items are added) or simply fixing that multi variation listings do not understand the difference of quantity 1-100 when passing into the next tenth digit, as it doesn't work on a 001-100 system (or 0001 etc), sort by quantity simply does not work because of this and it never has. Or how about now we have been forced into Simple Delivery (which does have some great benefits) we can no longer edit the price or quantity in our hub, without activating the listing to edit... or even worse, there was no easy tool to change hundred of listings to Simple Delivery as the option wasn't available in the "Bulk Editor" postage section and the back door way through CSV files had been removed.
ebay, stop changing what works when you haven't finished fixing what doesn't.

·2 weeks agoI saw this mentioned on the Business board and I had a look at some of their listings. I thought it was easy to miss the button where it says "see all X images" and I thought pity the poor sellers who have have this foisted on them. Then I discovered that it's been foisted on my listings 😥

OP2 weeks agoI hope they decide against permanently switching to this layout. Personally, I like the row of little photos - you can pretty much see at glance what the rest of the photos are like, which saves time if you do a lot of browsing/comparing items. Taking away the magnifier from the main page means you have no choice but to click to 'see all images'. Anything that requires extra clicking is not an improvement, imo.

·2 weeks agoThe previous layout was simple, easy to use and did the job. Changing it is one of those unnecessary/pointless upgrades which fail to enhance the site.

·2 weeks agoit's an AB test. ebay will look at the conversion rate (normally of add to basket) to decide if its an improvement.

·2 weeks agoEverything EBay changes is to make them more money - there will almost certainly be a further "amendment" to this at a later date - probably a charge for the extra photos.
