"Mark as dispatched" - gone
Summary: A discussion revolves around the confusion regarding features related to marking items as dispatched for private sellers on a platform. tressygirl is seeking clarification on whether private sellers can mark items as dispatched without generating a delivery label. The conversation includes requests for platform representatives to address the issue. Another point of frustration noted is the limitation faced by sellers using Simple Delivery, preventing them from grouping orders for combined postage.
As a private seller paying postage costs on all my listings I sometimes have two separate orders from the same buyer. Previously I would pay for and print a label for one, but include both in the parcel and mark the other as "dispatched". But now with Simple Delivery there is no option to mark the second item as dispatched. Is there a way around this so that Ebay does not think I have failed to send the second one?

OP2 weeks agoToday I received three seperate orders from one buyer, together with an Ebay message;
"[x] has paid for their 3 items now marked “Ready to post” in Seller Hub. Combined postage discounts are auto applied so be sure to group all items from [x] into one package before you get your postage label"
- which is really annoying, since as discussed at length in this thread there is no facility for a private 'post free' seller using Simple Delivery to do this !!

·3 months agoSounds simple, but as we all know, there's a percentage of folks who don't read anything. I'm carrying on using Custom Postage (with it's limitations of auction start price - that are illegal), thank you, Simple Delivery creates a huge overhead that I don't have time for

·3 months agoif the buyer has bought two items then , under simple delivery, they should be sent as two, for your own protection.
if the buyer has put two into basket and paid then the two can be sent as one.
perhaps suggest that in adverts, combined postage on items placed in basket for checkout.

·4 months agoHello all, I have to say after my last selling experience, I dislike Simple Delivery even more now! Whilst listing my last few items, I thought I'd give Simple Delivery a chance, how bad could it be, I thought? When I listed it, I carefully inputted the size & weight of my item & printed off the label when it sold. But when I got to the Post Office, it turned out the postage wasn't sufficient to cover this item, and there didn't seem to be a way of paying the difference!
So I paid for & posted my item by DPD, which cost more & took longer to arrive! I applied for a refund of my eBay postage label, & this took a couple of weeks to go through. I really wish eBay would go back to giving us sellers the option of working out our own postage & prininting our own labels.

·4 months agoThis seems still not to have been fixed by eBay. I've just had a buyer buy two things, with postage via simple delivery. It now looks as though I've posted only one item, even though I sent both in one package. How do I change the posted status on the second item? I thought I'd be able to assign both items the same tracking number, but no.
tressygirl
·4 months agoYou cannot now add any new tracking, eBay suggest sending the buyer a message with those tracking details. If a case is opened later for item not received, you will be able to add those tracking details.
A refund is sent to whoever paid for the SD label:
Payout for that item will be held for 14 days.

·4 months agoThis sums up perfectly why I use only custom postage and Royal Mail. I had one buyer who bought 17 lots last week. Imagine if he'd had to pay 17 lots of eBay's "simple" delivery rates. They have zero interest in individuals these days. They only want big corporates or people running a proper business. The days when eBay supported hobby income are gone. What they are doing is also anti-competitive, in limiting the start price of custom postage items to £20. I have occasionally had lots that I wish to start at £30-£50 so that they don't get snapped up for a lower price than I want. I can no longer do this and still use Royal Mail. Surely that is against both UK and EU competition laws ?

Totally agree if such a number is purchased by one member then 17 x a postage cost is just a saleable vision.
If you are selling items where buyers are wishing to buy more than one and do wish to use Simple Delivery, it does have benefits, not many I agree, but the main ones being eBay pay the buyer for any lost or damaged in transit items, and the seller gets to keep the payouts, then perhaps, write something like this on your listings........
' I am very happy to combine postage for multiple purchases, but for this to happen you must first place all items into your basket first , and a combined postage cost will be shown for you when you pay at eBay checkout, thank you. '
If you wish to only use Royal Mail , you can deselect all the other postal options in SD here:

·4 months ago@jimbob036, yes, I see it exactly as you do on my primary account, but not on my secondary account (where I have team access granted by the account holder), where my experience matches @cartoholic. I use Win 10 on a desktop, and I use Chrome for my primary account and Firefox for my secondary (to stop them interfering with each other), but it doesn't always work. Sometimes when I'm on my primary account, there are certain tasks that automatically switch me into the secondary one, even though it's running in a different browser.
Does @cartoholic use a secondary account I wonder ?

Could you please look at the last few posts on this thread, where a member can see how to mark an item as dispatched with this option being there under More Actions, I'm presuming they're using their own postage and not Simple Delivery.
Another member cannot see this option.
Both are Private sellers.
I'm confused too, as I thought Private sellers, had to at least trigger an SD label to mark as dispatched, that a separate option for the seller, is not available, or is it ? 🤔
Thanks, it hopefully will clear this confusion for some posters.... and myself !

·4 months agoI think it depends on how you list them. I use Custom Postage not simple Delivery. To list with custom postage, there are several hoops you need to jump through
You have to choose "Large Letter" option - even if it isn't
You have to set a start price for the auction
Start price has to be under £20
I don't use eBay labels or Simple Delivery. It all works if you stick to the above. If you use Team Access, almost none of it works

·3 months ago"I think you are using Simple Delivery, as a Private seller eBay prefer you do this, so you will not see that ' Mark as Dispatched', it's automatic!"
Actually, I sold a coin on the 28th April, and although there was the option to use an eBay address label, the buyer's address appeared after clicking 'View order details' so I was able to print my own label & arrange my own postage. I was also able (under the 'Overview' screen) to mark the package as dispatched, and I could have added tracking info if I'd needed to...

OP4 months agoI looked at this carefully for my latest double sale. Through 'Selling' and 'Overview' it shows the sale I want under the heading 'Dispatch Now'. I click on the dropdown next to the 'Get Postage Label' button, but the only four options that appear are 'View order details' 'View payment details' 'Cancel Order' and 'Message buyer'. Going through to the order details gives me further options, but there is no sign of the two you mention.
jimbob036
·4 months agoHi, just wondering, are you doing this from a PC, or a phone? I always use my PC for all my eBay transactions, but if you are using a smartphone, you might have a different interface...
rodathomeuk
·4 months agoTo be honest almost everything still works fine for me on my own account, apart from the fact that when listing, I have to choose the large letter option, even though I only use DL envelopes. The other issue when listing is that in auction format, you can't list anything over £19.99. If you put £20, Simple Delivery goes away. Basically, you can't list anything over £20 and use Royal Mail.
However, where my real problems lie is with the secondary account. So much doesn't work, it's like eBay doesn't understand the whole purpose of Team access. I'm trying to dispose of stuff for a third party, but don't want the takings flowing through my eBay account (for obvious tax reasons). However, to get round the (many) shortcomings, I have to get the secondary account owner to give me direct access so that I can do certain basic things. Giving me this access means I can see everything, including his bank account details . This is what doesn't work for secondary access:
Copying listings
Sending an invoice
Combining postage to send multiple items in one envelope
Marking items as dispatched
Adding a tracking number
Leaving feedback
...maybe other stuff too
It really is a crock of ****
I just got an eBay survey. My response was that eBay hates it's buyers. I've been on here since 1997

·9 months agoMy situation is slightly different...
I have sold a vintage audio turntable which was listed using Simple Delivery. Just by coincidence, I am going to be in the buyer's home town in a few days, and would like to deliver it in person. This saves the very careful packing that would be required and removes the ever-present risk of courier damage! The buyer is happy to have a personal delivery, but how do I mark the item as despatched / delivered? I cannot see a way of doing this.
maxfraze-0
·9 months agoEbay have just advised me of the following, which appears to solve my problem 😊
"In order to mark an item as dispatched, you need to click "get prepaid label" and it will get marked automatically. Since the label has been prepaid by buyer and it will remain unused, it will get refunded to him automatically after 40 days.
Regarding the item delivery, we can release your funds on time if your buyer will leave a positive feedback, but it cannot get marked as delivered if any label is not used.
Do not worry, since it will not affect your selling performance.
After 90 days, every items gets removed from a seller's account.
Even if he does not leave a feedback, you are going to get paid for it but after 14 days of the sale. With a feedback you will get paid 24 hours after the feedback. In order to release your funds, you should contact us when the feedback is left."

Since the label has been prepaid by buyer and it will remain unused, it will get refunded to him automatically after 40 days.
I somehow doubt that having buyers waiting for 40 days for a refund can be viewed as a positive selling point. ebay however will get to hold the funds for that period of time.
Is seller performance such a difficult thing these days, or is it just on new ebay process' ?

·11 months agoI am sorry you are having these problems. As a business seller I don't even have the option of combining orders to save on postage. I recently had a customer wanting all 3 of a product I sell but didn't want to pay the postage fee for all 3 and ebay support were no help. So what I ended up doing is asking the customer to pay for all 3 and I refunded immediately the postage for 2 of the items. I imagine this option is available for private sellers as well just to retain customers and providing the customer service we all like to provide.

·11 months agoI've had a similar issue. Customer bought 2 items. I saw they had a postage discount so printed that label. However, the other label is still available to print. I put both items in one envelope but now am thinking the non printed label has a tracking reference. Should I have posted them separately for future reference does anyone know
??
tressygirl
·11 months agoTo be on the safe side, if the buyer has purchased 2 separate items, paid for 2 separate postage costs, then, yes sen them separately, as you will have the protection of 2 tracking numbers.
Send them together use one label, then one payout can be held for 14 days or longer before release, but even more worryingly, the buyer could open a case for item not received, and there's no proof the item was sent.
It's a faff , but best to cancel then orders citing ( with the buyer's acceptance) Buyer Requests to Cancel.
This fully refunds the buyer. Relist them together, for the buyer to buy again. Then, there's one tracking n umber for the 2 items.

·11 months ago@jimbob036 this doesn't work unfortunately-- I'm in the UK as well, and I've tried using both the .co.uk and .com URLs and even though I'd input 'free shipping' for the order, I still can't mark the order as dispatched even though I've bought my own label. I've updated the buyer via message that their order is on the way and provided tracking there... So frustrating that there's no way to get around this at all if wanting to mark 'dispatched' other than to pay for a label you won't use and then request a refund. 😞
tressygirl
·11 months agoThere is no mark as dispatched anymore as eBay have made it mandatory for Private sellers to use Simple Delivery, and when those labels are purchased, it immediately marks the item as dispatched and adds tracking, eBay expect items to be posted promptly ! 🤔
If you have purchased your own labels, you need to manually add your tracking and this then shows an item to be dispatched.
Use a laptop / PC and Chrome seems to work well then:

tressygirl
·11 months agoCorrect, you can opt out of Simple Delivery but only for the items which are exempt, lightweight items under 100g, those under £10 in value, and oversize items, over 30 kg. DHL now handles ' bulky items'.
You also of course, not opt out, but do not Have to use SD , and use your own postage, but you'd have to add your tracking manually, and of course lose SD seller protection.
That is, when an item is lost or damaged in transit you would have to refund, eBay refunds in those cases if using Simple Delivery.

·9 months agoI had this problem recently - sold 2 items to the same buyer. I didn't see why I should have to cancel both sales, relist the items as a job lot and get the buyer to repurchase - what a palaver! - so I just generated the labels but only used one and sent both items in the same package. (I offer free delivery.) I then filled in the form to reclaim for the unused label, although none of the options actually included dispatching multiple orders. (eBay never make things easy, do they?) I managed to get round the problem of one item not being marked as Dispatched by changing one of the tracking numbers to match that on the used label. This worked fine. Both items showed as dispatched and delivered and I've just received feedback for both orders. (I asked the buyer if she could leave feedback for both orders in case eBay made a fuss about non-delivery and she was very co-operative.) Now I just have to wait and see if I get my refund after 14 days!

·7 months agoSorry I had to look back at the post you are referring to.
Some of my answers were made in September and a lot has changed since then.
Manually marking as dispatched , or adding a different tracking number is no longer possible. Once a Simple Delivery label is triggered it marks the item as dispatched, unused SD labels can be refunded to whoever paid for it originally. It's automatic for buyers, sellers have to apply and do so within14 days.
If a different tracking number is used, you can send a message to the buyer with those details, and if a case for item not received is made, that tracking number can be entered into the case details.
@david1979resells

If new tracking is used, not SD, then it's no longer possible to manually add this . It can be sent via a message to the buyer, and it can be added to any case for item not received. It will delay payment for a minimum of 14 days.
