Listing removed without any justification
Summary: dor-mur shared their experience of having an eBay listing for a motorcycle security ground clamp removed without explanation, despite no external contact details being included. jonatjonatjonat suggested possible causes like hyperlinks or model numbers mistaken for phone numbers. tigermike53 also faced a similar issue due to including a manufacturer's website link for additional product information, questioning why more information for buyers is an issue. jonatjonatjonat and *vyolla* pointed out that eBay blocks external links to prevent potential security risks and fraud, citing eBay's policy on listing links. roger_roger_over_and_nowt shared a link to eBay's policy page for further clarification.
Hello fellow members. I have been on eBay for 10+ years, mainly buying, selling only once in a blue moon. I listed a new motorcycle security ground clamp with eBay delivery via Royal Mail. They pulled my listing down for trying to 'buy or sell outside ebay.' No contact information was in my listing and I've had ZERO communication with any buyer/seller regarding my item. When I use the "Resolve" button on the listing (to ask them to explain and justify the listing being removed), the link simply says "there's nothing to see here." So basically my item is in limbo for an imaginary reason and I'm unable to sell through no fault of my own. How could ebay get this SO wrong?

·2 weeks agoI've just had the exact same thing happen to me - for including a link to the manufacturer of my item's own website in order for prospective buyers to get more technical details from the maker if they so wish, as well as authenticate my item as genuine and not a cheap knock-off.
How can this be wrong ?
The more information available to buyers the better - right ?

·2 weeks agoAnd that information can’t be included in the description on eBay why?
It’s simpler for eBay to police. Just prevent any and all off eBay links. Otherwise they’ve got to look at things on a case by case basis.
I don’t see the issue.

·2 weeks agoIt's a potential security issue. Somebody could place a dodgy link in their listing spoofed to look like a genuine one. That's why eBay don't permit links to third party websites.
To protect our members, listings or products can’t contain links that direct customers to a site other than eBay, even if the link is not clickable.
While there are some exceptions, listings or item descriptions can't contain links that direct customers to any other site.

·2 weeks agoWithout seeing the listing it’s hard to say. But other causes when that reason is given include hyperlinks to other websites used in the description or if you used a model number that could possibly be seen to be a telephone number.

OP2 weeks agoThank you. I included the website name of the well-known 100% genuine product I was selling for the buyer to register with the manufacturer for warranty. Somehow eBay claimed I was trying to 'buy or sell outside of eBay' and it was a policy violation. Now resolved and 'policy violation' removed from my account.
