Items showing higher priced to buyers - Anyone else getting this?
Summary: blofieldbooks reported an issue where items listed for sale show a higher price to potential buyers compared to the seller's listing, with an example of a £999.99 item appearing as £1199.99. This discrepancy has deterred bidders and confused buyers, despite assurances from eBay that it is a glitch. 4_bathrooms noted that this is a known problem, particularly with books, potentially due to eBay mistakenly adding VAT as if they were digital goods. They suggested altering the listing title might work, though specific triggers remain unclear.
Anybody else getting an issue where an item shows one price for sellers (in 'Active listings') and another for customers?. I keep getting the odd one showing up as 20% more to prospective buyers than I am selling it for. Had a couple of buyers paid 20% over my listed prices, and another highlighted yesterday on a £999.99 item that someone asked about, though they were seeing £1199.99 on their screen. Not an overseas transaction, not an overseas buyer with a UK address, not Vatable, as it was a book (and 0% on the listing still, anyway). Obviously, this may deter bidders, especially when an item is an additional £200!. n.b., I did speak to eBay about this previously, and they said it was a glitch, but evidently not fixed yet. A=Surely not just me having this issue?

·3 weeks ago · EditedI've seen this issue pop up before; books are (bizarrely) one of the most common items it happens to. eBay adds VAT on to the price believing they are responsible for charging and remitting it. I suspect eBay thinks affected listings are digital goods but I don't think the cause has ever been pinned down.
The only solution I remember working was changing the listing title but for the life of me I can't remember what specific words and/or phrases triggered it.

OP6 days agoApologies for the tardy reply - your message was filtered into my junk folder. It is a weird one, for sure. The agent I spoke with a couple of days back said pretty much the same thing, though adding VAT when it would be taken from the price of an item, not added as well as, seems an odd one. Strangely, though books are zero rated, the paintings I sell, which are 20% VAT have no such issue, and the prices shown are the prices I have set. It does make you wonder about the fees involved too. If the £1000 book sells at £1200, I would receive the funds on a £1000 book - whereas eBay would receive the fee percentage of a £1200 book - where does the rest go....?
