is this feedback manipulation
Summary: reasonable.robert shared their experience of purchasing a second-hand bed online, which upon collection was in poor condition. They had pre-paid and felt pressured to take it despite the issues. The seller offered a refund if negative feedback was removed, leading reasonable.robert to seek advice. Various participants suggested either taking responsibility for the purchase or accepting the seller's terms for a refund. Some were critical of reasonable.robert for leaving negative feedback after choosing to keep the item, while others empathized with the inconvenience. The discussion highlighted differing viewpoints on purchasing accountability and the fairness of feedback.
i recently bought a bed on e bay which was listed as used but in good condtion
but when i arrived the mattress was heavily stained on one side there was a rip to the cardboard inner and damage to the corners of the fabric
and the liner was loose on one side.
the seller quite rightly said i didnt have to take it but it was that or another night on the sofa and i had paid before i had collected it but personally it wasnt worth what i paid for it
the seller has offered a refund on the condition i remove negative feedback should i request a revision or wait and escalate it to e bay on the 31st

·2 weeks ago · EditedSo you inspected the bed and took it away, then left negative feedback even though the seller had offered to refund you before you took it, and now you're after a refund while expecting the seller to wear the neg?
I've just added you to my blocklist.

OP2 weeks ago · Editedas i said to MR that doesnt worry me its become a mickey mouse site anyway now.
i,ve got one auction listing left and 3 locos on once they sell i think i,ll just keep it for buying car boot lots to sell on vinted
tbh if i had sold a bed like that as good condition i would have expected a negative
and before the rightious get on their soap boxes its not as if it was local i wasnt really in a position to refuse as i had driven 35 miles to nottingham and the same home and it had cost me £20 in petrol to do so ...so to refuse it would have been a waste of £20 petrol anyway as i said its grin and bear it time
moonlight-rhapsody
·2 weeks ago · EditedThe problem is that you're expecting the seller to "grin and bear it" as well, even though they've done nothing wrong because you could have cancelled the purchase if you didn't like what you saw.
reasonable.robert
OP2 weeks agotaking onboard the advice think looks like its grin and bear it time
but still think a neg for condition is justified

·2 weeks agoHi @reasonable.robert you've had a couple of bad feedbacks yourself recently, it isn't very nice, is it? Especially when you feel that you have described everything fairly and in a detailed way. The seller in this instance even allowed you to inspect the item! That makes them a good seller. If you had bought on the market place you would not be able to change your mind like this. You should remove the feedback.
moonlight-rhapsody
·2 weeks ago · EditedBut surely you saw all the faults that your photos show when you went to collect. And if you allowed yourself to be rushed into taking the item when you hadn't properly inspected it, sorry but that's your fault not the seller's. I don't think you're going to do the decent thing and remove your negative feedback, but all credit to you if you prove me wrong (and you might stop yourself from going on to numerous people's Blocked Bluyers list).

·2 weeks agoYes. Sellers who cancel sales because they didn’t get what they want are a good example of the downturn.
reasonable.robert
OP2 weeks ago · Editedooh nasty did you have to look at my feedback before making that comment because you couldnt think of a sensible one ?
e bay caused the downturn with its SD and tinkering trying to squeeze more money out of sellers and now buyers thats why hardly anyone comes here
anymore thats why members have left in their droves either given up or gone to rival sites like vinted/etsy/amazon.
i used to be a easy going seller now the place is full of scammers and resellers its no longer worth selling here and i,ve had to bite the weenie and take the hard nose attitude

·2 weeks ago · EditedI don't understand why you would give negative feedback when you inspected the bed and accepted it. In spite of the condition, a double bed for only £20 seems a bargain. I can see why the seller wants the negative feedback to be removed because they've only had 5 feedbacks in the past year, so your negative has brought their rating down to 80% which to me seems very unfair under the circumstances. Removing the feedback would be the reasonable thing to do if you want to live up to your name!

·2 weeks agoI don't think that you should be pursuing a refund at all or be leaving negative feedback, I can't see any manipulation here on the sellers part.
You went to collect the mattress and saw that it was stained on one side and that there was some damage, yet still was happy to take it. You could've asked to cancel and just walked away and left it.
On that basis alone you should revise the negative feedback and just move on.
papso22
·2 weeks ago · EditedYoh chose to take it in that condition and at that price. You should not use the money back guarantee to get a refund, presumably because now you have something else to sleep on. The negative feedback was also harsh in the circumstances.
I think you are being an 'unreasonable Robert'.

·2 weeks agoYou need to take some responsibility for making this purchase. There was only one photo on the listing and a minimal description but you still decided to buy it. The seller said that you were there for over one hour which was plenty of time to inspect the bed before you decided to complete the sale and remove it. Now, both you and the seller are not happy and have to sort this mess out.
I would suspect that you will get a refund and a free bed.
reasonable.robert
OP2 weeks ago · Editedwell thats a lie for a start i wasnt there for an hour the seller brought the bed out and i loaded it looks like i,ll have to grin and bear it
and look on FB marketplace next time

·2 weeks agoTop Tip: If you do, make sure that you look at what you're buying before loading it. That way you can see what you're getting and make sure that you're happy before taking your item.
reasonable.robert
OP2 weeks agolook at the pics.. v would you buy that i assumed because i,d paid i was committed to taking it regardless took better to the tip
cobwebcottage
·2 weeks agoBut you didn't pay for it. You pressed buy it now which reserves the item until collection and inspection AND THEN you give the seller the collection code to confirm that you are going ahead with the purchase and taking the item away. Ebay does not complete the transaction without the buyer confirming it with a collection code.
As I have said, you need to take some responsibility for your side of the transaction.
*vyolla*
·2 weeks agoNo, I absolutely would not have accepted that. I would have told the seller to cancel the order and walked away.
**peaseblossom**
·2 weeks agoYou could tell them you will be happy to agree to remove the neg AFTER they have taken the item back for full refund. If not escalate to ebay as soon ss you can and don't let the seller delay yiou so you go out of time.
reasonable.robert
OP2 weeks ago · Editedtrouble is flower that means carting the damn thing downstairs and the mattress is very heavy
and then fuel to take it 35 miles back to the other side of nottingham
it would be easier to just take it to the tip
