Is Simple Delivery mandatory for new listings taken from a template existing listing?
Summary: bitternloco4464 is facing issues with eBay's Simple Delivery option automatically applying to new listings created from templates for records, which affects their ability to cover packaging costs. papso22 explains that Simple Delivery is mandatory for most categories and points out that outdated references to payment methods in listings could lead to sanctions. vinylscot suggests using bulk editing tools to update listings and recommends including packaging costs in item prices to remain competitive. suelel1968 adds that selecting specific options in Simple Delivery might still allow for custom postage settings.
I use my existing listings as templates as most of my items for sale are records with the same features for LPs, 45s etc. It is a fairly simple task for me to alter the name of the artist and the record label etc. However I have just discovered that if I want to continue to use a template for my LPs for example Simple Delivery will apply automatically which I don't want because the ebay postage costs on Simple Delivery do not take into account my packaging costs. Is this a recent change by ebay or is there any way that I can avoid Simple Delivery for my new listings?
Any help with this would be very much appreciated.

·6 days agoSimple delivery is mandatory for all listings except those where it's exempted. You need to read the guidance but they don't tell you what categories you can use custom postage for.
Your listings include that buyers can pay by PayPal or personal cheque, that is totally wrong. Buyers pay ebay by whatever means they choose from the options set out on the listing.

OP6 days agoThanks for that. I'm aware that my old listings still refer to personal cheque etc. but with over 1400 listings I just don't have the time to trawl through them all to delete reference to paypal and cheques. As regards the categories ebay have always allowed me to use custom postage for my records so I still don't understand why things seem to have changed suddenly.

·6 days agoIt's really easy to edit the bits about cheques etc, out of all your listings, using the bulk editing tools. This should be even easier if you've been using a template, as they will all have the same text. With regard to your packaging costs, you really just need to add them in to your item cost now. It's probably better for you to do that, as otherwise your postage costs will look really expensive compared to all those using Simple Delivery - you won't be able to match SD prices, even without adding extra on to cover packaging. etc., so you might as well at least take advantage of them.

OP6 days agoThanks for this. I will certainly have a go at editing the bits about cheques etc. from my old listings although I'm not very good at this tech stuff so we'll see. I appreciate your help with this.
