Is it just me or is it really quiet for sales on here?

·2 days agoI sell used car parts on ebay and i have my own website. Both have almost ground to a halt over the last few weeks, so i dont think it is solely an ebay problem.

It's become "part of the experience" -- part of the Americanisation of life led by the internet. Cut costs, maximise profits, ONLY the bottom line counts for anything, the attitude that saving a few pennies is a MUST in every situation. ( I watched a documentary about Boeing, where cost cutting resulted in air-liners flying into the ground).
Ebay caught the bug years ago and became a "super-spreader", fostering the idea that every sale should be a "deal", both buyers and sellers frantically sending offers to get sales. It's rubbed off everywhere and a price-tag is just an opening gambit, no matter how reasonable it is.
Some on here jump on any private seller who dares to mention "profit" but it's businesses that have made every transaction that everyone enters into all about the "margin" to be gained from it. Who led the way?? American corporations.

The plane that did the emergency landing on the Hudson River in 2009 nearly had disastrous consequences due to the proverbial "want of a nail". The crew's Emergency Plan used to be in a book that had tabs so that the crew could go immediately to the right section. To cut costs, the airline stopped putting tabs in the book, making it more difficult for the crew to find the right course of emergency action. Such a small change but such huge potential repercussions. Policies to save the proverbial nail are very short-sighted.

·2 weeks agoi managed to get a few sales in today though in the previous 7 days i only took in 15.42 , while 2 years ago i was getting about 2000 a month . it is summer but the place has changed , no longer pays off to have items at a pound and watch what you promote or you end up paying to sell

·2 weeks agoI agree, in over 20 years with ebay I have never seen it as it is today. This started for me when the hot weather began. Don't know why ?
Mind you, it is more complicated with less seller protection than it has ever been so maybe someone is trying to tell me its time to pack it in.

·3 weeks agono, offers are coming in thick and fast (i dont do offers) One wanting £1 off another £2. So you know its bad when people want to haggle over £1. Maybe they would like to do a 3 mile round trip for a discount. (Spoiler a sarcastic post, giving up until September lol, or rain)

·2 weeks agoNot just here, even the car boots have got stupid! Ask £2 for a good item and get offered 50p..... Would rather give to a charity shop. I had a hoodie/sweatshirt out, new with label, just asked £4 and straight away someone said would i take £3! (they did buy it at £4). Maybe it is me, if i see something i like and it is only a couple of £ why waste time or breath even offering less. Could understand higher priced items but people are so pathetic now they don't feel good unless they think they have got a bargain by knocking a few pence off.

Most notable thing for me is low views and watchers on what have always been desirable items.

·3 weeks ago@harperandholt it's not just you, I would say my sales have tanked since July. There is no doubt that some wet weather is needed for more than just watering the garden. eBay revenue in the UK is up 62m dollars in 6 months to June so the next quarter will be interesting.

·3 weeks agoMy experience from friends & family is that everyone is using ONLINE (so website) purchases because they don't want to drive out to gets things in this heat.
I've purchased more than a dozen items online in the past 2 months (value £500+) and I know others who've spent much more. Most use Brazillia (aka) :), I've used others to buy for me and bought direct from proper online stores.
So I would have expected sales to have risen, as its near Xmas levels at the moment.

·2 weeks agowell our car boots have been very busy regardless of weather, I have sat there getting a nice tan and wet last sunday! Personally i would rather have gone round the shops than the car boot during the heatwaves.

·2 weeks agoOh dear, I was forced to go round the shops during 2 heat waves now, and believe me, in the south, you would never choose the shops for silly items. The journey alone would fry you! I saw elderly folk collapsing from heat exhaustion and that was in the morning! You are probably thinking of the likes of Tesco's, ASDA's etc, they all have air-con. Try the high street shops, where temps were + 40'C in some sunny side ones.
Car boots here were all cancelled because of the heat, lol.

·3 weeks agoebay is dead. A combindation of them spending way to much time on ebayb live while the site and app goes to hell and vinted taking so many small buyers and sellers. Search option on the app has gone to pot. its been a terrible year. Ive been selling on ebay for 20 eyars with different shops, different stock and i just feel like packijng it it this year.
