Has the EBAY search algorithm had a meltdown?
Summary: eastring0 expressed frustration with eBay's search algorithm, noting that their electronic components are not appearing in search results by part number, despite being listed correctly. suelel1968 mentioned they found the items but were deterred by postage costs. eastring0 explained the need for tracked postage, while nigel_paul_wright7557 agreed that eBay's search often includes unrelated items, suggesting a flawed system trying to push sales.
Rant warning....
What is it with the search, it got worse now its worse than useless.
I sell electronic components, 99% of my items carry specific part numbers which again is probably how 99% of people search
so i put in a couple of numbers and my listings did not even come up, yet hundreds or unrelated listings to the part number i entered did?? I tried again, and as well as using the part number i put a bit or description in and amazingly it appears... Yet when I just search for the part number (which is the first part of my listing and is also in the specifics and also in the description) which is 100% the most important thing to search on, NOTHING
How can this be possible?
I list 12000 lines of components, member for 20yrs, all my UK Stock, full descriptions, mostly good pictures (real pictures) I am a top rated seller, 99.9% positive, i even pay a bit extra for the promoted listings, WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO EBAY? I am losing sales more importantly if people are not seeing my listings they are not buying so EBAY are losing money !!!!!
Whats the point of listing more stuff on (every day) if my average sales do not increase??? and the EBAY seach cant search....
End of rant.

·2 weeks agoWhat i don't understand is that I can find current listings for items via google and yet ebay will not return them in their Search on their own site!

·2 weeks agoEbay search has never been very accurate.
They seem to include things barely related to the search criteria.
It just seems like desperation to sell anything rather than admit they dont have what you want.

·2 weeks agoIf it helps to know, I had no issue finding your items from the part numbers...... then I was horrified at the postage price for such tiny components. Often it depends how people search, best match, lowest price plus postage etc. That said, there is little doubt that eBay search algorithm along with the Big river warehouse search algorithm are totally a law unto themselves

OP2 weeks agoWhether it weighs 1g or a 100g its the same cost to me, that's £2.60 plus VAT for Tracked48 and I charge £3.25 inc VAT, I cant afford to sell by non tracked anymore as I need proof it was delivered.

·2 weeks agoNo worries, just a buyers perspective really. If i found yours first I would still carry on looking because of the postage.
