Handling Buyer Without Collection Code
Summary: jamesonhartshornplanetbuu shared an issue regarding a buyer who couldn't provide the necessary QR code for eBay item collection, which is crucial for transaction verification. Several participants advised to hold the item until the code is provided, suggesting that the buyer contact eBay if they can't access it. If the buyer has already marked the item as collected, some suggested it might be safe to proceed, depending on the item's value. The consensus was that without the code, there is a risk of having no proof of collection, which could lead to disputes.
I recently faced an issue where a buyer wanted to collect an item but refused to provide the QR code required by eBay for confirmation of collection. This code is critical as it serves as proof that the item has been picked up. According to eBay guidelines, without the code, I'm not protected if the buyer claims they never received the item. I have tried reminding the buyer to check their eBay app for the code, but they are still unable to provide it. How have others navigated this situation? Any tips on handling this professionally while ensuring transaction security?

·2 weeks agoI'm guessing this on another account as the one you are posting on has no sales recorded.

·2 weeks agoJust explain to the buyer that you cannot release the item without this all important code.
You are correct, without it, you have no proof of collection, and the buyer could, if they wished, later open a case for item not received, and you'd be faced with refunding in full.
Ask them to check their order details, eBay messages, email even Spam the code must be there if not they need to contact CS.
If they get this code, I would also suggest when they come, to enter it to see that it is valid, before handing over the item.
If there is no code personally I would cancel the order to refund the buyer. There are no examples for this type of cancellation the nearest for you not to have your seller account penalised, would be to select ' Problem with Buyer's Address'.

OP2 weeks agoThank you. I have done this. The problem seems to be he has marked the item as collected already and is saying he can’t now access any the code.

·2 weeks agoMy advice is stick by your guns and reiterate that eBay supply a code/QR for collection items which must be handed over when collecting, else you cannot let the item go. If they can't find the code then advise them to contact eBay.

OP2 weeks agoThe problem seems to be he has already marked it as collected so h says he can’t access any codes.

·2 weeks agoAh, didn't see any mention of that in your opening post.
If he's marked it as collected then I don't think it can be unmarked as collected, so it would be safe to go ahead and let him have the item. May I ask the value though?

·2 weeks agoNo code, no collection of goods.
Are you asking the buyer for the code before they collect? if so, this may be why they are reluctant to give it to you. They just need to bring the code/QR with them.
If they are point blank refusing to give you the code on collection, cancel the sale.

OP2 weeks agoNo. Just that their courier would need it or he would need it when he collects. He saying he dosent have a code as he has already marked it as collected.
