eBay Home Page ‘Live’ Avatars - Annoying
Summary: death_by_umbongo expressed frustration with the eBay homepage, particularly with the intrusive live seller advertisements that dominate the page and activate easily. department28 shared similar sentiments, noting the ads' intrusiveness even on search result pages and finding them irrelevant. nigel_paul_wright7557 questioned the time wasted on irrelevant ads, while eastern_standard_time recommended using browser shortcuts to bypass the homepage altogether and suggested using ad blockers to manage unwanted advertisements. Overall, the discussion focused on the annoyance caused by these pervasive ads and ways to navigate around them.
I’ve been an eBay user since 2000 in one guise or another . Now a days a private seller clearing some of my own hobby stuff of the past 55 years.
When I land on the Front page there is row after row of live sellers . I’m not sure what percentage they are compared to the ‘static’ adverts / boards but they seem to be designed to open at the slightest human touch. I find before i’m getting to where I want to be I have to find the little ‘x’ to switch off the latest market seller.
I’m not interested in the live selling and feel the page design is forcing it on me.
My phone on charge , the wife picked it up to place a cup of tea down and noise and selling is belting out again . It’s like the Avitars / boxes are designed to jump in our faces .
eBay please remove at least some Live Sellers from the front page. Make them less accidental at opening.

·1 month agoCreate a shortcut on your browser's bookmarks toolbar that takes you straight to 'My eBay'. I did this a long time ago just for convenience, but now it has the added bonus of circumnavigating all the eBay Live guff that has appeared recently.

·1 month ago · EditedYes - it's a situation that is annoying to those of us that are not interested in the live auctions, and find the adverts irritating & intrusive.
I usually go straight to 'my eBay' and bypass the home page altogether - it's just row after row of sponsored, or recommended items, which AI has 'chosen' for me. Today, it has decided I would like to see a selection of portable & prefab office buildings, because I had been browsing 'office'... eh?! Then I remembered I had looked at some Office brand SHOES... 🙄
I wouldn't mind if the live auction ads were only on the home page, but they also appear on every page of search results, so you can't even browse in peace without a row of those garish, cheap-looking adverts interrupting your concentration!

·1 month ago · EditedI have become blind to advertisements.
I just look elsewhere so they are pointless.
I wonder how many millions of hours are wasted by people looking at irrelevant adverts ?

·1 month agoWhile there seems to be no way to block the eBay Live ads (yet), many people avoid looking at ads via Ublock Origin or Adblock Plus or some such.
