Do you get notification if eBay handle a SD return?
Summary: barry.110 shared a situation where a buyer requested a return for an iPod sold on eBay due to charging issues. They asked if they would be notified by eBay if the case were handled under the SD program without their involvement. **peaseblossom** suggested that the buyer might have changed their mind and noted that eBay could issue a refund directly if the return reason is "Damaged in transit."
I sold my old iPod a couple of weeks ago, then last Friday I got a message through eBay from the buyer saying it wouldn't charge and he would like to return it and get his money back. I replied apologizing that it didn't work as expected, I also said in the message that it did charge for me before I sent it. I then asked him to open a return request so I could send him a label to return it to me. Since then I haven't heard anything from him, nor have I had a case opened for a return.
What I would like to know is if he did open a case, and for whatever reason, eBay decided that they would refund him as part of the SD program would I get a message from eBay letting me know it is being dealt with by them? At the moment I feel like I'm in limbo, I'm keeping the money in my eBay balance just in case I need to refund him.

·2 weeks ago · EditedYou would certainly get notification if he started a return. He probably changed his mind and decided to keep it. If he does open a return later (but within the 30 days allowed) ebay can take the money from your payment source, it doesn't have to be from your balance.
ebay would issue the refund themselves under SD rules if a buyer uses "Damaged in transit" as the reason.
