could someone explain this to an old lady please
Summary: lijoh_2691 is new to selling and faced an issue where a buyer claimed items were broken in transit. According to messages from eBay, the seller does not need to refund the buyer and won't receive the items back. 4_bathrooms and **peaseblossom** explained that under eBay's Simple Delivery, eBay covers the refund if items are damaged or lost in transit, meaning the items become eBay's property.
HI folks
I'm new to selling so dont know the ins and outs
sold a box of items, four days after receiving them buyer complains some are broken in transit.
I asked for her to return the items, broken and unbroken but no reply
msg from ebay tells me " you do not need to refund the buyer and you will not receive the item back "
I know it makes me sound stupid but does that mean they will deduct the price from my account? and if so why wont i get the
broken stuff - which was not all of it by any means - back ?
thanks for any info on this simple delivery stuff .. I'm feeling too old to bother with all this

·Jul 21, 2026 at 1:00 PMAssuming you used ebay's Simple Delivery postage you are protected if the item is lost/damaged in transit. That means ebay will pay the refund, not you, when the buyer opens a claim case. They will not be required to return the item.

·Jul 21, 2026 at 12:58 PMUnder Simple Delivery eBay is responsible for any loss or damage in transit. eBay will refund the buyer out of their own pocket with no impact to you.
As eBay are refunding the buyer themselves the items effectively become eBay's property.
