Charged a refund fee when buyer cancelled?
Hi. I sold an item recently - the buyer paid then 20mins later initiated a cancellation, which I agreed too. I have just noticed that in addition to the full refund I have also been charged a 'refund cost' of £2.94 (it says 'from Barclays')? Why have I been charged this when the buyer requested the cancellation? Is there anything I can do about it? Thanks.

Hi @meonia_majic , thanks for your post.
I've just checked for you, and you were not charged for refunding a cancellation. However, you had other transaction impacting your eBay balance, to echo what others have said above, since you didn't enough funds to cover that refund, the difference was covered where you other payment method on file, but again, this wasn't us charging you for refunding a cancellation, but other transactions that you were carrying from before the transaction you're referring to.
If you go to your payments section, you will see the full history, so you can confirm this yourself.
Thank you,
Marco

·1 month agoeBay will now take theSimple Delivery charge of your funds as soon as the buyer pays. This is an issue I faced today. Buyer cancelled within 24 hours, I duly refunded them like a decent seller but noticed afterwards that eBay had deducted the Simple Delivery fee from my funds. This has only started happening since 1st September when their new shipping policy started.

OP1 month agoThanks, but I've considered that. As it was an almost immediate cancellation postage was not involved. It seems to be something related to the refund being processed through my bank account.

·1 month agoIt isn't a separate charge. When you make a refund eBay first uses any available funds from your eBay balance and then if that isn't sufficient they take the remainder from your bank account/funding source. Note, you will still receive the original payment from the buyer.

OP1 month agoThanks sml192. I'm aware of all that though. My Ebay balance was zero before the sale , which went into my balance. The full refund was totally from the balance, as expected. However when I look at the transaction history there was a separate entry for £2.94 which was charged in addition to the full refund?

·1 month agoSee my post above. They are taking off their Simple Delivery fee despite the fact you refunded the buyer the postage element of the purchase. If that's not the case, I apologise but I just wanted to warn others of this shortcoming in their system. I've had to fill in a form online to try to get a refund from eBay. In the future, I won't refund the buyer postage - they can work that one out with ebay.

·1 month agoWas the item in question sold with 'Seller pays postage' (Free postage) and was the postage £2.94? If that is the case then eBay takes the postage cost straight away when the item sells from your eBay balance or if there aren't sufficient funds then it either gets deducted from the sale proceeds or charged to your bank account/funding source. It may get refunded automatically in due course (I have seen some people state this to be the case following a cancellation) or you may have to request a refund manually here.
