The item is due to be collected by Royal Mail on Saturday (standard tracked delivery), but I’m now feeling quite uneasy about going through with it in case it’s a scam.The buyer hasn’t sent any messages yet, and the address looks like a normal UK residential one (not a forwarding centre), but I’m still concerned given the value of the item and their brand-new account....

Yes because you are using Simple Delivery. Ebay will refund them. You only have to refund/accept a return if it is deemed an item not as described.
