Best Practice for Listing SEO
Summary: A participant shared best practices for optimizing product listings for search visibility. They emphasized starting with a precise title that includes the product name, brand, and key features, while avoiding filler words. Item specifics and correct category selection are crucial for matching with filters. Clear photos, useful descriptions, and accurate details on delivery and returns help in conversion. Regularly reviewing key metrics and testing changes can further improve listing performance.
Just wondering what experienced sellers here consider the main things that help a listing get better visibility on eBay. From your experience, what tends to matter most for search — title keywords, item specifics, price, photos, description, or seller performance?
Is there any rough priority between these, or anything that consistently helps with impressions over time? Curious to hear what people have found works in practice.

Start with the title. Use the exact product name, brand, model, size, colour and key feature in a natural order. Avoid filler words such as wow, look or must see because they take up valuable space and rarely help search visibility.
Item specifics are just as important because eBay uses them to match listings with filters. Complete every relevant field, even when the information already appears in the description. Correct category selection also matters, as the wrong category can reduce impressions.
For photos, use clear images on a clean background and show the item from different angles. The first image should make the product easy to understand at a glance. In the description, give useful details such as condition, measurements, compatibility, delivery information and what is included.
Price, postage, returns and seller performance can all affect conversion. A listing may get impressions, but if buyers do not click or purchase, visibility can weaken over time. I would regularly review impressions, click-through rate and sales, then test one change at a time, such as the main photo, title order or price.

There is a tendency to describe the items in front of you in a sentence which leads to wasted characters and key words at the end of the description not the begining.
Cat motif Blue, pink & white long sleeve ladies pyjamas size 12 cotton M&S VGC
- would be better as
M&S pyjamas ladies size 12 100% cotton long sleeve blue pink white cat mouse
Photos are better on a mannequin or worn for clothes. Clean, plain background or remove background. Close up to capture the fabric texture. With a tape measure showing sleeve length, pit to pit etc.
Sales increase uour other item search rankings. Sell stuff off cheap if it has been on sales for months with little interest to get some sales, increase metrics on the overview page. Check items regularly for views. No views in two weeks, probably something wrong with description. Only a couple of views after 6 weeks, too low down the search order, "sell similar " to refresh the item. Keep refreshing items with low views and check price against sold items to see if your price is reasonable.
Price 10% higher than you hope to get and make offers to watchers. Use most appropriate postage for item. I fing second class posted at a post office before lunchtime collection is pretty close to first class delivery.
