AI Description
Summary: eastern-lights initiated a discussion about AI-generated book descriptions, highlighting a humorous example where an AI incorrectly described "The Camp of the Saints" as a camping guide. wheretheloveb expressed frustration with AI descriptions in general, describing them as cringe-worthy. theelench criticized sellers for using AI-generated descriptions without oversight and discussed broader issues, such as eBay's declining market share and the negative impact of such practices on seller reputations.
Are we allowed to mock AI generated descriptions here?
There is a book called Camp of the Saints. A dystopian novel, it is known for having predicted the current refugee crisis by several decades. There are several new copies available on Ebay.
One describes it thus: “Jean Raspail's The Camp of the Saints is one of the great dystopian novels of the twentieth century and certainly the most prophetic, heralding as it did the great demographic upheavals of our own day. Never has its message been more urgent nor a new translation more timely. With an original preface by the author.” Perfectly reasonable.
One seller though has allowed AI to describe the book: “The Camp of the Saints Paperback" is a book written by Saints in English language. The book is centered around the topic of camping and is likely to provide insights, tips, and stories related to camping experiences. With a paperback format, this book would be convenient to read on the go, making it a perfect companion for camping trips or outdoor adventures.”
I’d like to be a fly on the wall when the book is opened by a budding camper …

·3 weeks agoOne has to wonder if the seller even bothered to read the slop that the Artificial Idiot produced before launching their advert ?
On the "Buyer Interest" thread (same board) yesterday, I aired my views on A.I, its effect on a small part of the Collectibles market and the type of sellers that use it.
That ebay and so many sellers now seem to rely on it and long lists of I.S filters to sell anything is a good place to start looking at why ebay is losing market share, sellers are complaining of falling sales and an apparent general loss of interest in ebay.
IMO anyone with a serious interest in ANYTHING and the intention of buying it will be turned off by a site and those sellers who just can't be bothered to think about WHAT BUYERS ARE LOOKING FOR. They have dragged down even the good seller's reputations to their level and ebay has become a bit of a joke.
