Age verified delivery what postal service

I usually use Royal Mail Tracked 48 for all deliveries but the price of the age verified service for Small Parcel is practically double! £6.27 instead of £3.39. I guess that means it's uneconomic to sell cutlery any more. I have looked at other couriers' websites - Evri and Yodel - and they say knives are prohibited anyway. Yet I see some sellers are still using a standard Evri service. I couldn't find any age verified services on Evri or Yodel's websites.
What are other sellers doing? What postal service are you using or are you just giving up on restricted items?

·1 week agoHi, just had a vintage meat grinder removed supposedly a bladed item. Looking at eBay there are loads of similar items , how do they do it, the listing is the same description as mine. Also had a flat end screwdriver & wood scraper removed, I despair at eBay, sales also gone down the pan.

·2 months agoWhat a mess why not verify buyers age when they purchase a item or when they collect the seller can verify their age. I'm unable to sell a hedge trimmer because of age verifications all carriers have removed the option so makes a mockery of age verification I think Ebay need to look at the policy you can't sell a mower because of the blade As I have said when a person buys something with age verification that's when it should be verified . So now I have too sell a mower or hedge trimmer on a platform that allows these items

·3 months agoWhat a lot of sellers (not us) are doing is relisting the items showing Age Verified Delivery, but then continuing to post the items by normal service, as eBay's army of bots is satisfied that they ticked the right box. For example, even on a Royal Mail contract price, Tracked 48 with Age Verification costs a minimum of £6.14; but I am looking at a seller offering a junior hacksaw for £3.35 including free delivery with Age Verification!
This whole situation is a complete mess and has been very poorly thought out by eBay. They have taken out about 20% of my listings, but none of them are knives anyway, and most of them couldn't be used as a weapon at all- a pen or pencil poked in the eye would be far more dangerous, so why not ban all writing implements as well?

·1 year agoI've just sold some butter knives. When I listed them RM tracked 48 with age verification was available but now its only showing UPS at £10.58....
Why does it not give me the RM service?

·9 months agoDid you manage to sort this out? I sold a pair of dressmaking scissors and the same happened to me. The first time I thought it was because they lived in Scotland (the buyer chose to cancel the sale), but after re-listing and selling again I'm coming up against the same problem!

·8 months agoBecause it wants you to use Ebays preffered couriers...so that Ebay can get their cut !!!
Ignore the postage. Post using RM, add a tracking number to item waiting, and mark as despatched

·5 months agoEbay require a postage price next to the age verification service that you choose before they will allow your item to be listed. I visited the click & drop all the comparison sites yet none of them can just give me a straightforward price unless I give them a name and address which I do not have until the item is sold.
In the end I just made a price up, which is annoying because if the item sells and I enter the buyers details and the price is ridiculous I will have to cancel the order and it all becomes groundhog day. Sad for the seller and sad for the buyer.

·3 months agodirect business account with Royal Mail you can still use it, but you have
to be a business and to get a good rate, you have to send quite a lot of
parcels. UPS price is just insane- nobody is going to pay for that- you
might as well just buy the item from a bricks and mortar shop

·1 year agoI just sold a chainsaw on ebay using the Royal Mail age verification service option, only to find that the package is too big for them! No other courier will take it, and it's pretty difficult to disguise, so had to cancel the order.

·1 year agoAnyone find any cheapish options yet? I got many listings in limbo and no solution yet... Surely eBay's age verification is enough?! And in the mean time it makes no difference to the knife problem at all. 😞

·1 year agoI've just sold a food processor grating and slicing attachment and went for RM as the cheapest age verified option in listing but when trying to get postage via ebay its only allowing UPS at over £10 and only charged £6 odd (RM price). Original item is only £8 and the slicing bit is not a blade one just the one you get on average hand grater tool. Complete joke as they pulled listing until I added age verification.

they won’t let me relist it. Never got an age verification on any other site only on here. Oh well adding more to another site

·1 year agoI've had several completely harmless vintage promotional plastic / bakelite letter openers flagged up and removed. You might be able to give someone a nasty rub, but you'd be a long time trying to inflict any serious injury with any of them.
I've gone to the "Revise" option to change the postage to "Age Verified Delivery", but can't find any such options - only the same regular choices that were available when I originally listed. I'm stumped now. Do I have to re-list each one from scratch?

·1 year agoI will probably give up on low value restricted items.
Its fine for cutlery sets of about £50 - £60 or more, but I will pass the cost of delivery on to the buyer.
I had my first two items removed yesterday, a couple of letter openers.
They were thin so were being posted Large Letter rate. No point relisting with age verification postage, which starts at £6.27 upwards, and needing the buyer to be in when the postman arrives, standing at the doorway with a passport or driving licence to prove their age for a letter opener, or indeed a butter spreader.
Long toasting forks with sharp, pointy tines are fine to send without age verification. In a duel, I choose one of them over a butter spreader any day.

This could be worrying. Would eBay just blast through listings removing all items with the word knife or knives in the title?
It wouldn't surprise me.
So what will happen to something I have just listed, a small empty vintage cutlery box made just for storing knives, containing no knives?
Or yesterdays listing for knife rests?
What happens to pallete knife paintings, knife heeled womens shoes (for those that sell them)?

·1 year agoWhat is worrying is how far this sort of A.I idiocy will go. I've bought and sold inter-war glass on ebay with no trouble -- so far. But the other platform I use up-loads my ads. to Google Shopping / Images. They must have some policy about not advertising fire-arms. So their A.I will not allow any ads. with gun-makers names to be shown.
Today on ebay there are 1200+ items of "Walther and Sohne" glassware for sale, you will have great difficulty finding them on GS / Images and I expect it to get worse as I can still find a few items with W&S somewhere in the title. But search for "Walther & Sohne glass" and it will tell me "There are no matches". Will it start deleting listings including the words such as "Enfield" or "Martini" and many others at some point?

Experienced a similar problem for a herb cutter. Thank God I removed the original courier listed, (Yodel) as I randomly checked their website one day and noticed its forbidden to post certain items, included bladed ones!
Only problem was finding an alternative via ebay options provided, none of them matched weight, compensation or tracking options and prices were ridiculous, starting from £6.49-£13! Almost the cost of the item itself. Discovered royal mail 48 but again not sure about item weight restrictions or parcel dimensions!
It's also disappointing that items weighing more than 2kg but less than 5kg endure the same postal charges as a standard 5kg parcel! Something needs to be done with this! Royal mail are one of the worst couriers in my experience!
