Wrong item delivered by Inpost
Summary: bobshrunkle expressed frustration after Inpost delivered a wrong package and eBay provided inadequate support, focusing on refunding the buyer rather than the seller. davrman suggested using Simple Delivery for a straightforward refund process, but dream-letter shared a similar experience and recommended contacting Inpost with proof to resolve the issue. Despite attempts, bobshrunkle struggled with locating the appropriate platform to submit the required evidence, expressing dissatisfaction with both services.
Inpost delivered the wrong package to a customer. When queried, Inpost said the issue had to be resolved by eBay despite Inpost supposedly having all the tracking details. eBay proved worse than useless in terms of trying to contact them in order to explain the situation. They seemed fixated on the customer getting a refund not the seller. The customer was understanding and I had no issue with giving a refund but no-one seemed to be able to refund me for my loss. It was a relatively small amount of money but somebody should have accepted responsibilty. I will not be using Inpost again and after over 20 years of use, I'm beginning to have second thoughts about eBay.

OPAug 12, 2026 at 10:18 AMYou would hope that there was the simple solution which just worked. However, Inpost very apologetic but said the buyer had to send pictures of incorrect packaging to eBay. Tried to do this but could not a suitable portal to use. How do you tell Simple Delivery that something has gone wrong?

·Aug 12, 2026 at 11:23 AMThis is where simple delivery falls down. Any claim for 'item not as described' other than damaged in transit, falls to the seller as usual under the MBG, but the seller has no contract with the courier and so can't claim against them. It's basically a case of suck it up, ebay are not interested.

·1 month ago · EditedThis happened to me before also. My buyer received a hair product for some beauty salon the other side of town instead of a vinyl LP that should have been delivered byYodel.
If you ask the buyer to send you photos of the packaging (with address) and then contact Inpost - they should then issue a refund after they have investigated it. Ebay don't get involved.

·1 month agoIf the package was sent using Simple Delivery, the buyer should be refunded by eBay and you retain the original payment.
