shipping to europe.... only option is for seller to pay vat/duty not customer....

hi so today i sold an item to a customer in Denmark.... normally i ship with royal mail and thats not an option through ebay so I normally arrange my own postage on line via royal mail. Never had an issue untill today. Now the customer has not had the duty collected at checkout so needs to pay the duty when he collects or has it delivered. However when trying to buy the postage on line the only option to proceed with the postage is if i sellect to pay the duty, in this case £48 of course i can't do that and i can't bill the customer for it. I went to the post office and it was still the same there. Is this a glitch? what can't ebay collect the duty or the buyer pay for it? at the moment it looks like i will have to cancel the order and thats just blooming silly...... anyone else had this? is it just Denmark? ·1 week agoOn my business account here on ebay when the US went PDDP I had an online chat with ebay customer services about collecting the tariff charges and they told be to send the buyer an invoice by paypal using the buyers anonymised ebay email address, obviously totally wrong as its trading outside ebay, paypal wont accept the email address and buyers will moan and winge that I demanded extra money after they had paid in full on ebay so now I just add the tariff charges into the cost of the item.

·1 week agoIt isn't a glitch. DDU is not available for Denmark, Germany, or Luxembourg.
Eventually the intention is for marketplaces, as IOSS holders, to be responsible for collecting the duties alongside the VAT but this hasn'tbeen implemented yet.

·1 week agoWould it not be easier to use the global shipping program (soon to be international shipping) as a private seller?
EBay would sort it all out then. Given the size of your collection of gemstones you are selling feels like it would be one less thing to worry about.

OP1 week agosadly the only option given is ups, I live on the isle of wight, we don't have a depo or office here.... i tried to use them once before but my package was returned as something was not filled correctly maybe the number of copies of the recipt of sale? I did try and get info about sending with them via the driver but his info must have been incorrect. So i don't use them any more.

·1 week agoIt may potentially benefit you converting to a business account as it would give you full postage control that you realistically need.
